Dear brothers and sisters, After the great Pope John Paul II, the cardinals have elected Joseph Ratzinger - a simple, humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord. Surely many of you question the motives for the Pope sponsoring a myspace. The question confronting the Church today is not any longer whether the man in the street can grasp a religious message, but how to employ the communications media so as to let him have the full impact of the Gospel message. The pope is becoming a missionary, you will say. Yes, the pope is becoming a missionary, which means a witness, a shepherd, an apostle on the move. We made this in hopes that the church can more fully reach out to the public given today's changing cultural trends. Unfortunately, the pope's duties require too much of his time to allow him to fully participate in this activity.
