About Me

My name is Guthrie Lord, and I play guitar, drums, bass and keyboard. I attended Berklee College of Music for 2 years, studying jazz guitar. Then I decided I wanted to learn how to record and mix songs to their full potential, and learn more about ProTools. So my sister and I moved to Britsh Columbia for a year and enrolled in a program for Sound Design for Visual Arts and Media at the Vancouver Film School. There, we learned about almost how to create sound for pretty much every aspect of media. Plus all the teachers were musicans on the side, and they would relate everyting to tone and rhythm. I scored several short films while I was there, from a funk rock song for a skateboarding documentary, which I call, "Skate or Die" to a 9 minute classical piece for my thesis (not on this page). The 4 songs on this page show the range of styles that I have composed in, as well as reveals that I don't really know what kind of music I'll be making in the future. Which might be the reason that for the last year or so, I've developed a technique which allows me play the bass line, melody and chords at the same time. I replaced the lowest 2 strings of my guitar with bass strings. I got the idea from 8-string jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. I think he is the most talented musician on the planet and if I play this damn guitar/bass until the day I die, I will never come close to being as good as he is on his worst night. None the less, this instrument I've been playing (just six strings, standard tuning, bass strings 1 octave lower for the bottom 2 strings) is as much fun as playing bass and guitar at the same time. I'll upload some recordings of that pretty soon, but for now, I hope you enjoy this music. I played all the instruments, recorded and mixed all the tracks. Thanks for visiting my page!
