-------------------------------------------------True King Records, Inc. was formed in 2001. It's founder, armed with a passion and love for the 5 elements of Hip-Hop, produced the New York's Finest Graffiti Video series out of his bedroom, in his New York City apartment. The video series consisted of New York's top graffiti artist's doing what they do in the streets of NYC, the video also followed the violence that followed that type of lifestyle, with street fights, gang wars, robberies, & other sorts of street violence that is associated with life on the streets.----------------------------------------------------
------Sales were slow until, a concerned mother saw her 11 year old son watching the video, and brought a copy of the video to the police and the media. Fox 5 news aired a story on the violence & sales of the Graffiti video, to which the videos began selling off the shelf. Selling roughly 20,000 copies of volume 1 and 2. (Which is considered Gold in the underground world)--------------------------------------------------True
King founder Dre' Pesos, was arrested, for the contents of the New Yorks Finest which was deemed not appropriate for the public to view, Dre' was charged with 41 counts of aiding and abedding in illegal vandalizm, 41 counts of criminal mischief, 1 count of graffiti, & 1 count of tresspassing. Dre' was offered a plea bargin of 1 year in prison.---------------------------------------------------Af
ter consulting with his lawyers, Dre' decided to scrap the plea bargin, & take the case to trial, in which he used the case as a violation of his 1st. ammendment rights. Dre' fought & beat 82 of the 84 counts against him, & his company, in which we was found guilty of the 1 count of graffiti, & 1 count of tresspassing, & was sentenced to 4 months of community service & fined thousands of dollars.--------------------------------------------------Af
ter all was said and done, close to all of the profits generated from his graffiti video series were spent on his defense for this case, as well as fines. Broke, and down, but not out, Dre' was happy that he was able to continue to do what he loved to do, which was to push the envelope of issues in which he knew would push the commercial societies buttons.----------------------------------------------------
---Once a name was established due to the frenzy, True King decided to get involved more with its music line, and merged the graffiti video, with an original soundtrack, and titled it "Out of Focus" with the help of the Universal Zulu Nation, Chapter 17, & friend BL-One aka Johnny Walker (Cold Heat Entertainment), We were able to obtain some of the celebrities who participated in the project such as, DJ Camelo (Heavy Hitters), Rahzel (Roots Crew), Lumidee, Raheem (From Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5), DJ Evil Dee, & DJ Kay Slay, just to name a few. Again, losing some graffiti fans, due to the fact that we were considered to sell out more to the Hip-Hop community than the Graffiti community. -----------------------------------------------------True King somehow replaced those lost graffiti fans with hard core hip-hop fans who more than made up for the sales of the dvd, & soundtrack, selling thousands of copies, True King Records sky rocketed by doing outside shows from 5 people to selling out clubs like, Club NY, Mars 2112, Hammerstine Ballroom, to the world famous Apollo Theartre during the 10th Annual Independant Music Awards.-----------------------------------------------------
-------------From September 2003 to December 2003, True King Records staff & label suffered 4 major losses, during the peak of its tour, with the deaths of it's tour manager Matthew Hall who was gunned downed in Harlem in September, booking agent Vaj Tomino who was killed in a car accident in October, & business agent Teddy Wai, who passed away with Cycle Cell Anemia in November. In December, a member of Brooklyn's Most Wanted (A True King Performance group) was also seriously injured in an un-related car wreck, leaving him almost near death.------------------------------------------------------
-------After such a defeat, in such a short period of time, True King decided to finish up its tour and shows including a September 11th, tribute in Liberty Island. True King Records decided to take a break in January of 2004, to mourn & recollect its thoughts. (The future of True King Records, became uncertain)--------------------------------------------------
---In 2006, True King Records was back in the studios recording and rounding up new artists and old before coming back strong in 2007.
