I am here for Friends

About Me

Hi. I'm Adam.

Phew! The hardest part of introducing myself is out of the way.

I'm a student at UW-Parkside. It's a pretty interesting school - not the best, but not the worst. I'm pursuing a Management Information Systems major, which goes well with the fact that I work on campus in the Campus Tech Services department. It's a job most people would find pretty boring, but I'll let you in on a secret, just in case you couldn't already tell - I'm a nerd.

Shocking, I know.

I spend most of my time at work writing small programs, digging through the school's database, and generally just "enriching my technical capabilities", as my boss likes to say. The pay's decent, the people are very unique, and all in all, it's been a good job.

After I eventually get out of Parkside, hopefully within the next two years, I hope to land a job at some sort of tech company, so I can keep doing what I love. Longterm, I'd love to own my own business. There's just something about being able to command your own destiny like that.

Any basic questions about myself I haven't answered, feel free to message me.

My Interests

Well, I'm a nerd, so I dig the normal fantasy/sci-fi stuff. I'm also a closet English nerd, so I tend to enjoy curling up with good books.

I'm addicted to World of Warcraft and Halo 2, though I don't play the latter much anymore.

Last, and certainly not least, I'm pretty into music. It's such a powerful thing. I missed out on really getting into it until I was almost out of high school, but music not only soothes the savage beast, but it provides a window to the soul. Kind of poetic.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet all sorts of people.

If I wasn't a MIS major, I'd probably be either an English or a Psych/Soc major, simply because people are absolutely fascinating. Sometimes you'll see me on campus just staring down a hallway, people-watching. No, I'm not some creepy stalker, but I do like seeing how people interact with each other. I tend to have a lot of interesting people in my life with which to interact, so it works out quite well.

As far as famous people, I'd love to meet Stephen King. I've been a fan of his work for years, and he inspired me to pursue my literary-creative side and engage in writing short fiction. This is good, since it keeps me from attempting any sort of drawing, a skill I severely lack. Stick men usually come out looking like deformed survivors of Chernobyl.

Johnny Depp would also be pretty interesting to meet. I've liked him in every movie I've ever seen him in, which is a fair amount, and I think he has tremendous depth and range. His performance in The Libertine is phenomenal.

As far as everyday people, or people considering trying to get to know me, I cannot stand people who are close-minded (Somewhat of a paradox), people who like nothing but fighting and drama, people who are homophobic, racist, or who have no discernible sense of humor.

Come on guys, life is funny.

I'll admit, I don't watch enough movies. I've got a long, long list. My friend has decided one weekend he's going to kidnap me and tie me up with my eyes propped open. That being said, it's often amusing when people say "Hey, you know that part in Random Popular Movie From The Past Five Years where Something Interesting, Scary, Amusing, or Otherwise Mentionable Happens? Isn't that so Cool, Messed Up, Odd, Crazy, Etc.", and I just say "Umm...never seen it."

No. I haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite, stop quoting that movie. Or either Kill Bill. Or any Godfather movie. Quite honestly, I'm betting I've NOT seen more movies than you can think of. It's not because I don't want to, it's just that I never seem to find time.

Television:

I don't really get to watch a lot of TV, usually because I'm out pretty late most nights, and I don't have any way to record. I'm also somewhat of a cheapskate on utilities, so my apartment doesn't have cable. I'm willing to watch most shows once, though, and I'm always open to suggestions. Until I find some, though, I'm going to use this space for...
