I'm A Paramedic Bitches
This is my Son
'We are NOT "ambulance drivers" . We drive an ambulance, but we are PARAMEDICS or EMT's. We have certificates from the state. We went to school. Blood, sweat and tears were poured into our education. We've held the hands of the dying, and consoled the families of the dead. We are the ones that wake up in the middle of the night when you call us, scared, and we tell you it will be okay. If you're not in the field, you may not understand why being called an "ambulance driver" either makes us angry or hurts us. We save lives. We give medications, cardiovert, intubate, and we even give you bandaids if you need them. Yes, we drive an ambulance technically, but we are more than glorified taxi drivers. We are Paramedics or EMT's, and one day, you will meet up with one of us. When you do, look that medic in the eye and tell them, you appreciate them. I appreciate all of my fellow brothers and sisters. Thank you for saving the lives of so many and even more so, hanging in there when the going gets tough.'

If you see this please take the time to post something like it to so that we can show a huge out pouring of support to those in their time of need. You can even copy and paste this.
EMT / Paramedic Prayer
As I perform my duties Lord
Whatever be the call.
Help to guide and keep me safe
From danger big and small.
I want to serve and do my best,
No matter what the scene.
I pledge to keep my skills refined,
My judgment quick and keen.
This calling to give of myself,
Most do not understand.
But I stand ready all the time,
To help my fellow man.
To have the chance to help a child,
Restore his laugh with glee.
A word of thanks I may not hear,
But knowing is enough for me.
The praise of men is fine for some
But I feel truly blessed,
That you, Oh Lord have chosen me
To serve in EMS.
Definition of an EMT:
An emergency medical technician (EMT) is an emergency responder trained to provide emergency medical services to the critically ill and injured.Once thought of as an "ambulance driver or attendant," the modern EMT performs many more duties than in the past, and responds to many types of emergency calls, including medical emergencies, hazardous materials exposure, childbirth, child abuse, fires, rescues, injuries, trauma and psychiatric crises. As National Fire Protection Association regulations state that Rescuers be medically certified, many EMT's are also part of Technical Rescue teams, such as Extrication, Rope Rescue, Water Rescue, etc. They may be part of an EMS, Fire, or independent rescue team.EMTs are trained in practical emergency medical knowledge and skills that can be deployed within a rapid time frame. Patient treatment guidelines are described in protocols following both national guidelines and local medical policies. The goal of EMT intervention is to rapidly evaluate a patient's condition and to maintain a patient's airway, breathing and circulation by CPR and defibrillation. In addition, EMT intervention aims to control external bleeding, prevent shock, and prevent further injury or disability by immobilizing potential spinal or other bone fractures, while expediting the safe and timely transport of the patient to a hospital emergency department for definitive medical care.
