"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."- Albert Einstein "Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The thought that the State has lost its mind and is punishing so many innocent people is intolerable. And so the evidence has to be internally denied." - Arthur Miller
REVIEW OF MARKED VINYL VOLUME ONE (APRIL 2002, MISCREAT.COM):Marked Vinyl - ‘Marked Vinyl Volume One’ (Marked Vinyl)"This nine track EP from Dundee beat-smiths Marked Vinyl was a very pleasant surprise indeed. With the 1985 Oor Wullie annual being the last thing to have come out of Dundee that I’ve actually enjoyed, Marked Vinyl Volume One came as something of a revelation. There is a short selection of useful samples for DJs to scratch, and one very promising hip-hop track, Oscar Bravo, which contains clever, witty lyrics over some excellent, original production - so it’s quite a disappointment when it ends after a little over a minute.Miriam Rules is the EP’s longest track, and arguably its best. There’s a funky African flavour to this, with its tribal drums and rhythmic chanting giving it an exotic version of the head-nod factor. The rest is a real variety of excellently produced beats and samples. This is available on vinyl in most of the good East coast record shops (contact details below if you wish to find out exactly where) - and in my opinion, Marked Vinyl Volume One is worth every penny of the deep sea diver it will cost you.
