About Me

Lives just outside of Heathrow.
Partner in own graphic design company. Shameless plug: www.athenedesigns.com.
Was a writer with Burton Morris writing consultancy, but redundant in January '07. Now adding writing wing to Athene. Extra shameless plug: 'Work in Words' - workinwords.co.uk.
And now a freelance journalist - which is another way of saying 'under-employed' and 'skint'.
Worked for 6 years at the BBC. A place that looks fun, but can suck you dry and spit you out.
Some anecdotes from that time:
1. rubbed shoulders with Johnny Cash - literally. I was in the way in a corridor.
2. given a 'What the hell are you staring at?' look from Bananarama's Keren Woodward. Their TOTP rehearsals were surreal. They didn't mime, opting instead to do a mute dance routine. Their voices still echoed eerily from the speakers like Marley's ghost - assuming he was in a girl band, of course.
3. elbowed a paparazzo during BAFTA. The parasite was clambering all over me to photograph John Hurt looking worse for wear.
4. met footballing legends Billy Wright and Ferenc Puskas. No further comment needed.
Ex-drummer for Legion of the Lost and Senecan Requiem. Remember them?... Didn't think so.
Sold off drum kit as was too huge for the house. Drum cases now believed to be used as family accomodation somewhere in UK.
Used to drum on car steering wheel, dashboard and other inaminate objects to moans of displeasure. To preserve the sanity of all, I now have a new kit.
Switched to bass when I played with Under A Glass Bell in the mid-80s. We had 3 releases on vinyl, and the unsold copies are still filling my loft. Handy tip. Boxes of records make great insulation.
Still passionate about music and with the new kit, bass, guitar and other sundries, am now putting together some new material. www.myspace.com/hare2 for new developments. Note that the back catalogue is still readily available, with the aid of a stepladder and duster.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

The guy who used to book bands for 'The Tube'. I'm fairly sure I screwed up the chance for Under a Glass Bell to appear on TV. But not knowing for certain still gives me the occasional sleepless night...

Dressing the English

Back in 1967, England was the swinging fashion capital of the world. 40 years later, we're the worst dressed people in Europe. If it wasn't for the unfortunate Americans, that'd be the worst in the wo...

I Think I'm Paranoid

I've been awake since 3.30am. My wife has flown to Italy on business. Her flight was 08.30am. Because of security restrictions, she has to check in over 2 hours before the flight. Hence 6.00am at the ...

To Kill a Mockingbird

Nosing around my local bookshop this week, I had further evidence of the increasing idiocy of the general public or what publishers believe is the idiocy of the general public. There, almost centre st...

Dick Kerr's Ladies and China

My profile is mainly about music and glosses over my love of football. It's simply because I believe the music will have a wider appeal than an account of beating MMB 2-0, going down 0-3 to Economical...
