It used to be a studio, but it became something else when...
There had been a major fire, destroying half of the whole building. countless people are affected, roomates without a home, bands without a place to practice, and one very sad engineer who lost more than half of the gear he owned and his humble business.
These things happen, and often a phoenix rises from the ashes. What else do you do when you have practiced and trained your skill set to include engineering, producing, performing, creating, writing, designing, managing, promoting, short run manufacturing and illustration?
If you had been here when it was what it used to be you would know it. what else can i say about a performance room that looked like this, sounded as cool as it looks and had a control room attached to it? Oh, well only that this house provided the coolest vibe to any and every session. This was a tracking room, pure and simple (over 450 sq. ft. ProTools 24/Mix, Mackie, Ns10m's... know what i mean) did you need to record a band? a drummer? Percussionist? Track into ProTools, and export it to whatever platform you use at home! Burned up.
Not only that but, Studio B. a production room with a decent tracking booth/ room. Sequencing, Sampling, Editing, Mixing, these rooms were for artists/ producers to create tracks using tools of our generation (MPC2000xl, digidesign 002r, Mackie, KRK, Technics, E-mu, Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Boss....yeah?) All of this inside a nexus of local artist communities. where else but...
the Playhouse !
But that was the past. There will be a change here (it has already begun to take place, as I mentioned) and as life teaches, time moves on. There will be a new purpose and destination for not only this site and concept, but for some of those affected by the aforementioned tragedy. Just because some possesions were lost does not change, ultimately, what it is we were doing and will continue to do through-out our entire lives, probably.
Here is a taste of the new mixing with the old; An older project (easily 4 years old now) being podcast for your entertainment. enjoy, and stay tuned.
