I am here for Friends

About Me

I have been happily married since Jan. 4, 2002 to a beautiful woman named Alysa whom I met at the University of Oklahoma. We welcomed our first child Joe Braddock into the world on April 20, 2007. I have been playing professional baseball since June of 2000 and in September of 2005 I actually lived my dream and pitched in the Major Leagues against the Seattle Mariners...and promptly gave up a hit to Ichiro! Nice intro. Most importantly though, on June 8, 2002, I decided to accept Jesus Christ into my life in the middle of a crowded Starbucks. People sometimes ask me if I'm a religious guy and I tell them no. I believe that religion divides people while the love of Jesus unites them. When I think of religion I think of feeling guilty and of "doing the right thing" and all of the formalities and superstitions that go along with putting on the front that so many people do. There is a huge difference between the good news (the gospel) that Jesus brought and religion. Religion says, "If you obey, God will love you." The gospel of Jesus says, "Because God loves you, you can now obey." It's not, "If you're good, God will love you"...it's, "Because you're bad, God loves you!" God demonstrates his love for us in this: while we were still sinners Christ died for us! Jesus took our place. He took all of our sin, all of our crap, all of our hate, everything and nailed it to the cross with Him. He was our substitute. I would rather have the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ than of a false religion. I want my outside to reflect my inside and I want the love of Christ to shine through me. I don't force my faith on anyone, but I am always prepared to give an answer for the hope that I have. I still act like a spaz at times but that's just because...I am a spaz!
