Somewhere along the line they met up with Brian Ballard and began appearing with him as their lead player for a short time. The three eventually went their separate ways but JD and Brian never stopped loving the music and kept in touch.
J.D. is influenced by Steve Earle, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Charlie Robison, Guy Clark, Bruce Robison, Townes Van Zandt, Earnest Tubb, and Merle Haggard to name a few and every Southern Rock Band you can think of!
BRIAN BALLARD
Brian is a highly motivated rhythm and backup lead player who possesses very eclectic musical tastes. His favorite band is the Rolling Stones but is equally comfortable playing country, blues and also loves southern rock. Brian has great stage presence and really knows how to work the crowd. He is very comfortable singing lead or back up vocals and is quite a song writer in his own right.Brian was born in 1965 in Dallas Texas. Coincidently this was the same summer that Mick and the Boys released “Satisfactionâ€. He got his first guitar from a door to door Brook Mays salesman. Brian attended Catholic school in Dallas and later moved to the deep country East Texas town of Van. The first year there he was introduced to outlaw country music and snuff. One day he was listening to the Zoo radio station and heard “Sympathy for the Devilâ€, found his old guitar and the rest is history.
Brian’s influences include the Rolling Stones, all English bands, the Psychedelic Furs, Keef Iffhard, SRV and U2. Brian’s favorite saying is “OK enough… Let’s Rock!â€
JIM RAINES
Jim is the cement that holds the band’s tight sound together. His hard driving beats and percussive creativity continues to astonish all who have the pleasure of playing with or listening to him. His attention to detail when covering great classics and creative genius with originals is phenomenal. Jim grew up and still lives in Mesquite Texas. He got his first drum kit at the ripe old age of 5. After just 2 weeks, he had completely torn it up, but the "Fever" hit, and he’s been playing ever since!Jim was involved in bands all through school. In 1977 he joined his first working band and started performing in various clubs around DFW. During his military career, Jim continued playing drums at clubs in and around San Antonio with a band called "The Recruits". After the service, he returned to Dallas, and immediately began playing drums for some great bands like "Savage Intentions", "The Night Riders", "Metallurgy", "Blacksmiths", "Members Only", and spent a short time with the longtime DFW band "Lightning" His last project before joining “Legends of the West†was with a band called “Head Stockâ€.
Jim also has extensive studio recording experience. He worked as a studio drummer for Courtney Studios. For you baseball fans, let it be known that Jim was drafted out of high school by the Detroit Tigers, but didn’t make it due to a knee injury. Oh well... lucky for “Legends of the Westâ€.
Jim’s influences include anything that ROCKS!!!!! SRV, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, AC-DC, Dream Theater, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Pantera and Black Label Society. Don’t let this fool you though; Jim is equally at home with everything from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Charlie Pride.
LARRY ANTINOZZI
Larry began playing in bands starting in the 7th grade and hasn't looked back since. After learning trumpet, guitar, and drums, he started playing bass seriously in his college jazz band when the bass player quit school. He plays most kinds of music and has been in loads of bands you've never heard of. He lists his influences as: Louis Armstrong, NRBQ, The Marx Brothers, Paul McCartney, Emory Gordy, Jr., and Kenny Gradney. He loves performing, recording, and at times is very color coordinated. Aside from being a great bass player, Larry is also an accomplished guitar player, singer and songwriter.CRAIG CARDWELL
Craig is more commonly known among his band members as “C-E-Vâ€. This is a nick name bestowed on him by Brian and is an acronym for “Curtis – Eddie-Vaughanâ€. It has been stated that Craig possesses a combination of lead playing that blends the imaginary slide guitar prowess of Curtis Lowe, the raw power and technical ability of EVH and the heart and soulful blues of SRV. Craig will be the first to admit that he is neither, but he does have a great command of his lead guitar abilities and is a pleasure to watch and listen to.The extraordinary thing about Craig is that he does it all with a left handed guitar. His lead playing adds the icing to an already undeniably great recipe of musical cake.
Craig was born and raised in central Texas. He spent many years in California and then moved to South Carolina before finally returning to Texas. He began playing guitar in his teens and has continued to hone his skills ever since. He was active in performing bands throughout his 20s but confined his musical career to studio and home recording until the creation of “Legends of the Westâ€. Craig has a vast amount of original music, mostly instrumental, that he has created in his home recording studio.
Craig’s influences are all great guitar players: EVH, Eric Clapton, SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Engwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Via, Eric Johnson, Robin Trower, Jimmy Page, BB King, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, Steve Gaines, Chet Atkins, Leroy Parnell and Les Paul to name a few. Craig’s motto “You can never have too many left handed guitars.
