We began in 2003 in Londons Hoxton square doing the first High Art meets Low Art event. The first gig saw lots of Classical Musicians interested in other forms coming down and jamming with Jazz, World and Hip Hop artist and a movement began.
The night eventualy went off track and we descended into a free for all with every Tom, Dionne and Hariet turning up to perform and our core audience drifted away.
We still managed to get performances out of the UK's elite including: Cleveland 'The Don' Watkiss, Paul Gladstone Reid, Tunde Jegede, Wall Cham Jobarteh, Zena Edwards, Lyric L and Sona Soul.
We eventually moved out of the Hoxton area and are now residents at The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton with our host HKB FiNN and DJ MiSS Good Grooves now called DJ MotherBass on turntable duties.
So far we've had: Nyika, El Crisis, Yam Boy, Julia Hendricks, Shahanara Begum, veRse, The Tunde Jegede Ensemble and many more.
We're gonna be here until July 2009...after that? Festival Hall...
In the interim, check out HKB FiNN's first solo album to be voted Urban Album of the year in the UK's leading music press Mojo Magazine. It also won a prestigious 5stars in The London Times. The album is a refreshing look at the possiblities of Hip Hop. The aptly titled: ACOUSTiC AFRO HiP HOP is out now on
FiNN has made a few other albums since, but this remains one of our favourites...enjoy...
