About Me

With a soulful mélange of Latin and Hip Hop melodies powered by the thumping drum and bass sounds of Roots Reggae, Ras David has carved a unique niche in New England’s eclectic musical landscape. With the single “Herbal Healing” on the self-produced Fireball riddim, fast becoming a staple on Reggae stations around the globe, Ras David has emerged from a decade of instrumental and production craft to becoming an assertive new voice in America’s burgeoning roots Reggae Movement. With the LifeForce and Nocturnal Production crew behind him, Ras David documents his expertise in music production, instrumentation, and vocal ability with “Herbal Healing” and his latest single, “Blood Against Blood”, which will both be featured on his upcoming debut solo album. “Herbal Healing” is the lead single on the Fireball Riddim in regular rotation on Jamaica’s Irie FM, also featuring tracks from Natty King, Dario Dane-Jah, Yami Bolo, Sizzla, and Luciano.“I wasn’t lead to music. Music was, is, and always will be in me.” –Ras DavidBorn in Connecticut to Puerto Rican parents, David Rivera grew up in a musical household, with his father being a noted Salsa musician. As a teenager, David became drawn to the pulsating rhythms and Rastafarian philosophy through the music of classic roots reggae artists like Bob Marley, Culture, Steel Pulse, and Burning Spear. With his band Soullution, David toured New England, opening for artists like Sister Carol , The Meditations, Congos, Midnight, as well as Burning Spear and Culture. In 2004, Ras David traveled to the Philippines as a featured performer in the Bob Marley Reggae festival. In 2007, he performed on his first stage show in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. In September 2007, he performed in one of North America’s largest reggae festivals, Irie Jamboree, in New York.Influenced by everyone from Marley to Wyclef, to Sizzla to Timbaland, Ras David’s brand of roots reggae infuses all forms of American music with his Latin music heritage and roots reggae passion to create a distinctive sound that is an updated, creative twist on the classic brand of raw roots reggae. With the prevalence of dancehall music hitting the American airwaves, Ras David is inspired to recharge America’s interest in roots reggae with his unique homegrown recipe. To hear his brnad new singles, as well as to view the video for “Blood Against Blood”, log on to www.myspace.com/rasdavid or trippleproduction.com .
