GProper - What is your definition of a producer?•••It's being able to coach the vocals, know the board and equipment and tellthe engineer what I want. So many people say they're producers just becausethey can make a beat. Don't call yourself a producer if you're not one. Amusic producer knows which note is flat or sharp, what to sustain, whatshould be staccato or legato, how to record and mix a record. A real producercan be left alone in the studio with the equipment and come out with a hitrecord. I parked and listened to it. I enjoyed it for the first time as a listener and not an author. It sounded different, like it was in its rightful place among the other records waiting to be heard. It had made the transformation from studio song to record. That’s how you know when the song is finished, when it sounds like something that you can buy in a store be it click or mortar.
