"Midnight Hysteria are a four-piece power-pop/rock band who hail from the inner-west suburbs of Sydney. Relative newcomers to the Sydney scene, they have played for the last few months with bands such as Altona, Belles Will Ring, Offcutts, Melanie Horsnell, Richard in Your Mind, Death Mattel, Quick 50, and Bright Red.
Combining influences such as Abba, Queen, Dandy Warhols, and The Howling Bells, Midnight Hysteria perform upbeat, melodic pop songs, with a dark and mysterious theatrical flair (both musically and visually).
As a classic example of "...it's who you know", the four members (two girls and two guys) met in one way or another through their mutual musical friend Jeremy Smith (Altona, Women of Troy). Jeremy's involvement with Midnight Hysteria has continued on to include production work on Midnight Hysteria's first demo release in July 2006.
Alex (lead vocals, keys, and Jeremy's sister) has a strong background in musical theatre, through which she has performed on stages around the world (London, Italy etc). This theatrical leaning contributes to the group's use of powerful melodies, and to a degree the eccentricity which is applied to their take on pop-rock.
Wes (guitar) and Dave (drums) both come to Midnight Hysteria from a previous musical incarnation. As a combination, Dave and Wes are a veritable case of Jekyl and Hyde; whether that be through comparisons of intelligence, talent, good will, or good looks. With all of these traits fluctuating on a daily basis and leaving a trail of broken hearts, the male half of Midnight Hysteria sometimes make the female members' theatrics pale in comparison!
Tying all these elements together is Kim (bass), who is a walking contradiction in her own right. Anyone who gets to know Kim will realise that appearances and personality are rarely the same thing. For Kim, Midnight Hysteria is her first on-stage endeavour, and she is already an integral part of Midnight Hysteria's sound.
Midnight Hysteria are busily building a base of loyal fans through their fun-filled live performances, and are also currently working on new material, leading up to a debut EP release expected in mid 2007.."
