Jeff Bartlett - Drums (October 2002 - July 2003)
Doug Dragon - Drums (only for a few jams in 2003, and also he jammed once in 2003 on guitar when Sean became the drummer)It has been a roller coaster of a ride for us since becoming Lightpost 6...We started out not even as a band, but as co-workers. Mark had some original songs he wanted to have professionally recorded, so he asked Greg Lesko to play bass, and Greg Sgrulloni to drum. It took two nights of recording at Jam Room Studios in August 2002 to get Catch 22, Radical, Once Again, Procrastinator's Anthem, and Miss Turigurl done. Upon handing the CD out to friends and family, the band was created. Since Greg Sgrulloni was going off to school, we needed to find a drummer, so we were introduced to Jeff Bartlett, a cousin of one of Greg Lesko's friends. In this time, we played all of our original songs, plus we heard new ideas from Mark which turned into actual songs such as Help, Shadow, and The End. On February 15th 2003, we made our first live appearance in Derry NH at The Summit Cafe. The show went quite well, and so we booked a show at the same place the following week, February 22nd. At that show, we debuted Help and Shadow. Things were quiet for a while, and we just jammed out and perfected our songs, then on July 5th 2003 we played a show in Scarborough Maine. Shortly after that, Jeff left, and we needed to find a drummer again. We came across Doug Dragon, guitarist turned drummer. The first song we worked on with him was "Remains". Things didn't work with him, so we explored other options. Sean and Greg had been in Jazz Band at Southside Jr. High back in 1998 and so Greg suggested him. He declined at first stating that he's a jazz drummer, not a rock drummer...after a little while, he accepted and joined us in October of 2003. From there, we went to "Monkey Wrench Studios" in Nashua NH to record "Remains" for the International Songwriting Competition. The recording quality wasn't up to par, and so we did away with it, and returned to Jam Room Studios to record "Out the Door, Help, and Remains" in 2004. In May of 2004, we made our first appearance with Sean at his student recitals for the Memorial High School music department, where we played "Help" and played "Out the Door" live for the first time.
In 2005 and 2006, we had some issues with school and work preventing steady practice schedules. During that time however, we managed to record "Grayscale Reverie", and other scratch tracks including "Outside Looking In".
2007 rolled around before we knew it and a steady practice schedule was made. On July 22nd 2007, we played a Battle of the Bands at Milly's Tavern in Manchester (we still don't know who won or why we didn't get paid TO THIS DAY!). After that, we recorded scratch tracks of "My Promise", "Second (Is First to Lose)" and a "summer-sounding song" (which is now known as Run Away). On December 7th 2007, we played a show at The Sad Cafe in Plaistow NH and had our first soundboard audio recording!
After the holidays, Sean got some good quality recording equipment. We decided to record our full length CD "Don't Plagiarize the Future" on our own. So the first song to record was "Help", to which we added a lead guitar line, background vocals, a few tweaks to the bass line, and a subtle piano at the end. After the response from that, we decided to record "Outside Looking In", which was a tough one to do. One June 28th 2008, we played at The Sad Cafe again, and we had a LONG set list (approx. an hour and 20 minutes). Greg proposed to his girlfriend Lisa before Mark played "Through It All", a virtually unknown song he recorded on his own.
As of right now, we're still working on recording and getting shows periodically. Check out our blog titled "Set Lists of the Past..." to see what we've played live!
We're hoping to release "Don't Plagiarize the Future" in 2009!
