movies, independent videomaking, computers, comics, art, martial arts, movies with dramatic scenes shot in the rain.
i'd like to meet cool people. no scenesters, no pretentious pricks, no self absorbed punks. basically, no one who's like me. I am immediately mistrustful of people who feel they have to tell you what kind of person they are. "...what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
jimmy eat world, dashboard confessional, green day, brand new, pearl jam, postal service, death cab for cutie, otis redding, oldies, motown, motion picture soundtracks, tupac, goldfinger, blink 182 (pre-enema of the state), the juliana theory, bright eyes, N.E.R.D, Taking Back Sunday, nas, the snuggleups, cursive, the get up kids, tegan and sara, pm dawn, dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince, broken social scene, the arcade fire, kanye west, Jay Z, Saul Williams, the velvet teen. I'm a sucker for anything with a catchy pop beat or whiny lyrics about relationships. shameful? maybe.
too many to name. you'd have to separate them by genre. i just like watching movies. good ones, bad ones, great ones and awful ones. i think i just appreciate that they are made. a movie has to be particularly craptastic for me to hate it. i don't really have a top ten list but for a movie to make my favorites section it must meet the following criteria. 1) i have seen it more than 10 times. 2) if i come across it playing on TV i will stop to watch, even if it's the middle of the movie. 3) i can draw, edit video, work on my art, workout (i don't really workout but i thought i'd throw that in there), or work on my computer while the movie is playing and not be annoyed. 4) if i already own the movie on DVD, but a new special edition comes out, i will buy it. IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark, rocky IV, indiana jones and the last crusade, the rock, hard boiled, the killer, lethal weapon, maverick, top gun, tango and cash, die hard, star trek: first contact, best of the best, zoolander, galaxy quest, shaolin soccer, the crow, braveheart, fight club, titanic, spiderman, when harry met sally, fist of legend, drunken master 2, the original star wars trilogy, calamity jane, singin' in the rain, white christmas, the little mermaid, aladdin, my best friend's wedding, true lies, aliens, serenity---yeah, i know, mostly action movies. i also greatly enjoy movies about high school, sports, and high school sports. I watch a lot of other stuff too, but they don't meet the 'favorites' criteria. I used to be pretty confident in saying I had seen more movies than anyone I know, but getting a full time job and moving to LA kind of screwed that up. i'll also watch pretty much anything with robin williams, morgan freeman, mel gibson or tom cruise in it.
24, Grey's Anatomy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dark Angel, Smallville (early seasons), ER, Alias, The Unit, Boston Legal, Firefly, Lost, In Justice, Battlestar Galactica, Lois & Clark, I love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, Voltron, Robotech, House. Recently I watched the season finales of 24 and Grey's Anatomy back to back. It was almost more of an emotional roller coaster than I could handle. Damn you television. Damn you.
the wheel of time series and conan books by robert jordan, the dark tower series by stephen king, a people's history of the united states by howard zinn, angels & demons and the davinci code by dan brown, ender's game and ender's shadow by orson scott card, eragon by christopher paolini, neverwhere by neil gaiman, anything by robert frost and pablo neruda, too many comic books to mention...anything by frank miller, spiderman, anything drawn by jim lee, john romita jr., and travis charest
my family. a lot of artists talk about how their families never wanted them to become starving artists but mine has supported me in pretty much every thing i've ever wanted to try, no matter how ridiculous it seemed at the time.
