Lonesome Hank and the Heartaches

Swingin' Jump-a-billy Blues

About Me

When this band first assembled in 1997, we knew one another from the "Blues Community" in Kansas City. We had even performed with each other from time to time, and knew the chemistry was right. What closed the deal was the shared love for Blues and other American Music styles played in the late 1940s through the early 1960s. So, that was the inspirational base to build this new band. Of course, to get an authentic sound that captures that era, you need instruments and equipment also from that period. Carefully, we collected vintage instruments and continue to perform with microphones, amplifiers, and guitars from the 1950s. Our Drummer plays a drum set dating in the 1940s. Perhaps the premier piece (certainly the oldest) is the upright bass (nicknamed Bertha May) our Bass Player brings back to life. We compiled a list of favorite songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s . Some popular and others more obscure, but all great representations of the wonderful sounds of that golden time for American Music. But we weren't satisfied to just cover some of our old favorite tunes. So we started writing new songs with inspiration from the old songwriting style. To give you a better sense of our style repertoire, the list would look something like this: Chicago Blues, West Coast Swing, Jump Blues, Rockabilly, Swamp Rock and Zydeco. That should just about cover it. PS: Please don't ask us to play Mustang Sally, Going to Kansas City or Free Bird. Thanks, Hank
