»-(¯`v´¯)-» «-(¯`v´¯)-«Forget the stories you’ve heard about the wild nightly adventures of Le Clic’s bandmembers. Forget the afterparties untill late the next evening, how Aron Friedman (usually lost and therefore dubbed The Lost Son) got his nickname or how everyone missed Noah Pepper’s birthday, because he didn’t return to Amsterdam for five days after the band’s magnificent performance on Groningen’s Noorderslag Festival.
Le Clic is sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll in a nutshell - but with an attitude and sound, that formed the band into one of Amsterdam’s best kept secrets of the underground. Last year they basically waltzed over every club in the Dutch capital, and now the rest of the country is finally starting to catch on. In January 2006 Julien Chaptal, Noah Pepper and Aron Friedman were the great revelation of the Noorderslag Festival, with a catchy repertoire of danceable sexy disco-house. An electronic band that can make the whole crowd dance is quite unique in Holland... Especially a band with a massive arsenal of great tracks and two guys on the microphone. Think of Aron Friedman’s hilarious ‘Jack Is Whack, or Noah Pepper’s ‘Lazy Boy’. With producer Julien Chaptal - surrounded by electronic equipment - as the captain, RSS Le Clic sails the seas of deep minimal, groovy disco and music in the best French house-traditions. Or to quote Release Magazine: “Le Clic takes off where Daft Punk and other French house ended.â€
Not many bands were leaving this year's Noorderslag Festival with such a packed agenda as Le Clic. Suddenly, the band is being booked through the whole of Holland and seems to be at the dawning of a great break-through. This spring, the first tracks are being released on Darko Esser’s Wolfskuil Recordings, while other releases are planned on 100% Pure, the renowned Amsterdam label known from Shinedoe and 2000 And One.
It might seem like Le Clic came out of the blue, but in fact the group has been steadily building their sound for the last couple of years. Founded by the French Julien Chaptal, who lived in Paris and Canada before moving to Amsterdam, and the American-Dutch Noah Pepper, Le Clic is one of those international groups you're most likely to find in our capital. When deejay-producer Aron Friedman (also of Dutch-American origin) joined the group, Le Clic already had formed a clear identity. And from there on the the trio progressed fastly, now having enough material for a whole album.
Flashback to Queensnight 2005: Le Clic is playing on Twstd Open Air, where the band is staged between the cream of the Dutch electronic-music-crop, from Laidback Luke and EC Groove Society to Eric de Man’s Handel and Quazar. The band becomes one of the night’s highlights, with an impressive live-set that gets the whole crowd dancing. Afterwards Le Clic is the talk of the town. That night, the idea for GO4 is born. The Amsterdam Gang Of 4 is a co-operation between Quazar, Handel, Le Clic and EC Groove Society. They’ve been performing together on a regular base ever since, especially in Amsterdam’s Studio 80 club, a place that they transformed transformed into their headquarters. Here, Julien and Noah present the internet program Welcome To The Future, together with the Quazar posse (Saturdays from 8pm untill 10pm, www.studio-80.nl), while Aron Friedman (also known as resident and co-founder of the succesfull Traffic and Mono parties) has a weekly show there called Radio Tosti (Fridays from 7pm till 9pm).
But in the near future the band will focus mainly on the coming summer tournament. And judging by the first reviews, it should be promising. DJ Broadcast was very positive in their Noorderslag report: “The group, consisting of three deejay-producers, plays disco-, electro-, and techno-influenced house-music. Two of the three also sing, and that makes Le Clic, apart from extremely danceable, a fun act to watch.†Or like VPRO’s 3VOOR12.nl put it: “Le Clic is ready for the festival season. These three can make any crowd move.â€
