Gilchrist on Drums

About Me

Stephen Gilchrist is a professional drummer/percussionist and composer living and working in London. His playing experience ranges from studio tracking to large scale theatrical productions and he has toured all over the world. He is comfortable as both a studio and a band musician and is best known as the drummer for Britain's finest and most influential guitarist Graham Coxon.

2009 Update

Stephen who is never known to turn down a gig has vowed to fill every waking second with as much playing as possible.
The end of last year saw him hook up with Queenadreena who feature Crispin Grey and Katie Jane Garside formerly of Daisy Chainsaw. With only a few gigs down so far they have managed to cover Japan, France and the UK.
More recently he has been added to complete the line up of a slimmed down Jennifer Gentle. The Italian Sub Pop signings met up with Stephen early last year when they were supported by his former band stuffy/the fuses on their UK tour. After a weekend of frantic rehearsal and a couple of warm up shows in northern Italy, it was announced officially that Stephen was to join the Jennifer Gentle line up.
In between playing with these bands Stephen has found time to work with little known songwriting genius and guitarist Ally Craig. Stephen and Acoustic Lady Land bassist Ruth Goller teamed up with Ally to record some tracks last year, some of which ended up on Ally's debut single Angular Spirals. They are currently planning to get together in some top secret location in Oxfordshire before unleashing Ally's twisted pop tunes on an unsuspecting public sometime in the early half of 2009.
Stephen is also keeping busy with his own projects. He turns his hand to playing guitar with Local Girls who apparently sound like (and I quote) "Posh girl vocals being backed by a band of potential rapists" or maybe it just sounds a bit like B52s crossed with The Jesus Lizard. Who knows? Who cares? You do, of course.
Plans for a studio based project with producer Gareth Parton (go! team/Pete & The Pirates/Victorian English Gentleman's Club) is now under way as is his introspective anger management songwriting project under the name Stephen Evens.
If this is not enough, to occupy what time is left in the day he is collaborating on a songwriting project with Goldfrapp and Peter Gabriel keyboardist Angie Pollack.
Sleep, is most obviously, for losers.

I am proud to be part of these fine company's artist programs.
