About Me

"The day is coming when a single carrot, freshly observed, will set off a revolution." - Paul Cezanne
The Blackfoot River - Montana. It's easy to photograph such a river as this.
"Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters." -Norman Maclean
Henri Cartier-Bresson
The Decisive Moment "Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again." -Henri Cartier-Bresson Cartier-Bresson photo

"There are still so many places on our planet that remain unexplored. I'd love to one day peel back the mystery and understand them." - Annie Leibovitz
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it" -Roald Dahl
"I have seen, the desperation and disorder of the powerless: how it twists the lives of children on the streets of Jakarta or Nairobi in much the same way as it does the lives of children on Chicago’s South Side, how narrow the path is for them between humiliation and untrammeled fury, how easily they slip into violence and despair. I know that the response of the powerful to this disorder -- alternating as it does between a dull complacency and, when the disorder spills out of its proscribed confines, a steady, unthinking application of force, of longer prison sentences and more sophisticated military hardware -- is inadequate to the task. I know that the hardening of lines, the embrace of fundamentalism and tribe, dooms us all."

"What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race." - Modigliani
Psyche Opening the Golden Box
"Three passions have governed my life: The longings for love, the search for knowledge, And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness. In the union of love I have seen In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts of [people]. I have wished to know why the stars shine.Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens, But always pity brought me back to earth; Cries of pain reverberated in my heart Of children in famine, of victims tortured And of old people left helpless. I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot, And I too suffer. This has been my life; I found it worth living."
Bertrand Russell
"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves." Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

Anyone who likes my dog, Marsden because he has been to the hills and back. Our dog almost died last summer. He got so sick and lost so much weight that every vet in town thought he was a gonner and gave up on him. We fought together that dog and I, and now since he's back, I call him spirit boy. He's seen the light, so to speak, after that long boat ride.

"Still - in a way - nobody sees a flower - really - it is so small - we haven't time - and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time." - Georgia O'Keeffe
