What exactly is ki? Ki not only applies to the Dragonball world , but to the real world itself. (In the real world ki is also known as "chi")In the Dragonball world, ki refers to a person's "energy" that they give out (usually when they fight). Every person has a distinct ki, so not everyone has the same energy. The ki then can be recoqnized, once a person has encounter one's ki.Once Gokou returns to Earth, from the battle on Namek, Gokou learns a new teleport. This move uses the basis of ki. Gokou is able to transfer himself into any place. That is only if the place he is transporting to contain a ki that Gokou recoqnizes. This gives him an advantage when helping friend and family in need. (This move is called Shunkan Idou, which basically translate to "Instantaneous Movement." In the DBZ dub, by FUNimation this move is refered to as "Instant Transmission.")Ki also reveals a person's personality. A person's ki can give off certain "vibes," which tells if this person has good intentions or not. Basically, a bad person may give off "bad" ki, and good person gives off "good" ki. Ki is also tied in with a person's power. If a fighter raises his or her ki, more and more energy is released. *This explains why the area around the fighter is "shaken." Once a person lowers their ki, less energy is released, and they use less power. But once they raise their ki, all that energy is released, and are usually not gained. That is why when a fighter is injured they lose power because of that loss in energy. The good fighters may go through vigorous training just to use their ki and power effectively. So extremely powerful fighters, with huge power levels may have more energy and endurance to use more devastating moves. These moves, however, may take up more energy than others.During the show each fighter eventually develop a unique skill involving ki... Actually hiding and sensing them! Hiding one's ki, is another key factor in battles. A person could hide ki, so that their opponent could not easily find them. Or hide "part" of it, to fool opponents, who relies strictly on power levels. If they could hide thei ki, they could also easily raise them. (For example, the battle with Radditz, Gokou, and Piccolo in the Saiya-jin saga) Sensing ki, is also important, as hiding one's ki. Sensing ki requires some training, or by developing it. For example Vegeta could not sense Gokou's ki heading toward the battle field, but he eventually learns this skill just by observing the "Earth warriors" using it.Ki is an important trait and skill in the Dragonball world. This is important when battles take place. A person could fool their opponents easily by using ki. Ki, if used properly could be an advantage in determining outcomes of certain battles. Ki may not be the most important factor in fights/battles, but they do certainly gives most fighters an advantage.Power levelPower level in DBZ plays an important role during the early and middle of the Dragonball Z serie. Power levels was never introduced during the regular (original) Dragonball. This idea of "measuring" a person's power was introduced right in the first episode. Gokou's brother, Radditz, used a scouter to scan and measure power level, and to communicate with other fighters with scouters.Scouters were only used by all men working for the fiendish Frieza. None of them, with the exception of Captian Ginyu, relied on the scouter, greatly in battle. They need to know if a person they were facing was superior or a weakling. Even though a person may have a greater power level, this does not measure how skillful a fighter is. For example, Gohan "grows" stronger than Vegeta before/during the fight with the Ginyu Force. Krillin wanted to use Gohan for the wish (for immortality), but Vegeta admits that "Gohan may have the power needed, but not the fighting skills to prevail." This may also explains how even Guldo, a fighter weaker than Krillin and Gohan combined, almost defeats the both of them, if it wasn't for Vegeta to make the save. Another example of this, is when Piccolo faces Frieza's second transformation. Piccolo is able to hold off against a fighter of greater power, because of his fighting ability and skills.Scouters and power levels eventually became useless in the show. In the middle of the series, scouters become useless as more fighters are able to hide their "ki". This makes using scouters basically, obsolete. So fighters relied on their own fights and experiences. By that time, any fighter they meet could basically, hide their "true" power. Not knowing this, they could be easily defeated. So it wasn't important for any of the fighters to know their own, or their opponents power level. Just because it would be useless when fighting an opponent that could easily hide their power levels.EvolutionMany thousands of years ago, the people who would come to be called the Saiyajin crawled out of the darkness and evolved into beings capable of forming societal groups and fashion crude tools, much like the Earthling Neanderthal. Similarly, the Saiyajin had another sentient species to contend with on Tsufuru-sei; the Tsufurujin, who, like Homosapeins, were far ahead of the Saiyajin in evolutionary development. As their civilization developed, the Tsufurujin lived in constant fear of their massive, strong, violent neighbors. The Tsufurujins best defenses against attacks on their people, possessions and domesticated animals were often insufficient against the creatures they dubbed Saiyatamahito which roughly translated in Tsufurugo to People with brains like Vegetables.The early Saiyajin were smart enough to learn what poison tasted like and that fences could be electrified, so the Tsufurujin resorted to a practice that went against their gentle nature: they decided to solve their problem by creating an air-born toxin which would pacify the violent killers. It was supposed to manipulate the Saiyatamahitos DNA and instantly turn the feral beasts into civilized, calm creatures of the forest. It did serve to calm the brains of these evolving creatures, but it also had one horrible side affect.The Tsufurujin only discovered it as their civilization rained down around them. Their tampering with the people they had considered pests (much as an Earthling farmer feels about the wolf or coyote) caused a serious genetic defect inherited by all Saiyajin from that day forward: the curse of transforming into an Oozaru under the full reflected light of a closely orbiting celestial body.The Oozaru (or Giant Were-Monkey form) was at first uncontrollable, but as the generations passed, more and more Saiyajin, especially those who were very strong, were able to retain their consciousness while in this mode, making them very formidable in battle. In this form, the Saiyajin made quick work of the Tsufurujin. They woke the following morning, astounded to find their world in ruin, but soon put the pieces together. The Saiyajin knew they could not survive on a planet they would ravage uncontrollably once every eight years when Tsufuru-seis moon was full.It is unknown if the Saiyajins strength and ability to heal rapidly as well as grow stronger with each defeat was an effect of the Tsufurujin DNA enhancer. Making use of the technology the Tsufurujin left behind, the Saiyajin destroyed the moon during one of its 2 year quarters. They renamed their planet Vegeta-sei. For the next 3 thousand years, the Saiyajin evolved further into the beings we are today; intelligent, cultured and civilized, albeit in an often violent way.LanguageThe Saiyajin modified the Tsufuru language to better suit their speech pattern. Saiyago remains a harsh, guttural language. It is a language meant to be communicated at high decibel levels. In sound, Saiyago can best be described as a combination of the Earthling languages German, Icelandic and Russian.The written language consists of symbols taken from Tsufurugo called Blocklanguage. To write in Blocklanguage, one must have a tool called the Block, which is either a rubber-like stamp which can be pressed into ink or a wedge-type tool wich is pressed into clay or heated so as to burn leather. This is similar to a practice carried out in ancient Babylon on Earth. Babylonians used a wedge tool to press symbols into clay tables in a language called Cuneiform. They had but one shape to work with. Saiyajin Blocklanguage is made up of 13 basic shapes. By flipping13 spokes of the Block with the thumb and forefinger, one can create hundreds of different characters.The Block is a difficult instrument to master which requires years of study and practice. Most Saiyajin at the time of Freezas Occupation were literate, but only approximately 50% of the population could write. Writing was not necessary to the every-day life of the average Saiyajin even before those dark days. If one needed a deed drawn up or an account of a crime taken down, one would go to a scribe, a person trained specifically to write. There is also a handwritten, much slopier version of Blocklanguage which is used unofficially. It is often illegible and is therefore unusable in any legal way, much like the difference between typed text and handwriting. My own handwriting in Earth languages is abysmal, however, as handwritten Blocklanguage goes, I assure you, it's fairly neat.I will not provide any further information about Saiyago in this volume. It would require an additional few years of my time to present my language in a way which non-Saiyajin could understand. It is however my main area of expertise. Most outsiders would say violence, but there is a fine line between the brutality of sheer violence and the desire to be strong, active and dominant. Family groups are fluid, but very supportive. Class delineations are in constant flux as people gain or lose power within them. There is no ceremony and often only one of the parents raises the child. However, the family group is large and strong. The Saiyajin know the importance of a good childhood.The child is placed into the care of not one, but anywhere from 3 to 20 some odd family members who live in a single community with other family groups. Sometimes the child grows up never knowing his or her father or mother, but it matters little if they have six aunts, four uncles and innumerable cousins and grandparents to raise them. This allows for more flexibility for the parents to do as they please. Saiyajin do not retire when they grow old or after their children are grown. Often, they rejoin family groups they may have been distant from for many years.Saiyajin women have an average of 1-4 children and often with 1-4 partners. Saiyajin men have as many children as they desire with just as many partners. Both mothers and fathers share equal semi-responsibility for their offspring, relying on their families for support.This practice is not only accepted to aid with upward mobility within the society, but because so many Saiyajin die young due to over-exertion, battles or disease.If a couple falls in love - and it does happen! - they bond through meditation, either peacefully or in a fight or a hunt. Each crawls into the others brain, for a second feeling what the other feels, knowing them intimately. If the bond is successful, the pair will stay faithful for the rest of their lives.Societal RolesThe Saiyajin have just as many different roles in their society as any other. To use the word caste to describe these roles would be unfitting. No Saiyajin is born to do what his or her parents did, save the royals. There are rural farming communities, urban technological centers and the Drodjun (what most would refer to as the military). Saiyajin can move as freely between these circles as their talents and ambitions can take them.In each different environment, physical prowess and superiority are always a key factor in delineating hierarchies, but nowhere is it more prevalent than in the Drodjun. To be the Drodjun leader is to be third only to the King or Queen and the Viceroy. It is the highest honor a Saiyajin can achieve. Most Drodjun leaders (due to the extreme demands of the position) last only 10 to 20 years. The end of their service is often brought about by their premature deaths.All high posts in nearly every aspect of Saiyajin life are attained not by democratic election or by royal assignment, but by obvious worth and valor. Just because a man or woman is well liked, doesnt mean he or she is best suited for the job. Heads of families are often determined by this same method. The obvious leader will rise to the top and guide them through daily life.Here I shall blast apart another rumor which I argued about with Kaio-sama Himself. The readings of power level or ki-power did not come into practice until the Occupation. Yes, it is true that Saiyajin babies were measured at birth to determine their power level, but this was a way for Freeza to determine how strong the Saiyajin were and how they progressed as they grew. Of course the Saiyajins undivided interest in strength made this a very acceptable practice, but it was only implemented in the last six years of Vegeta-seis existence and had nothing to do placement inside Saiyajin society.For six years, Freeza studied the figures that came back from maternity wards and grew very displeased at the results. Over 85% of the babies born in those six years were of Elite status. This scale was based on the average power level of all forms of life serving in the Planet Trade at the time. With these statistics, Freeza knew exactly what kind of a threat the increasingly malcontent Saiyajin race was to his power.RoyalsThe royal family or House of Vegeta is the only social circle which it is next to impossible to join. Let me return to ancient Saiyajin history for a moment. After the end of the Tsufurujin, rudimentary clans which had begun to form became stronger. The dominant Vegeta clan asserted its position early on and gathering other, stronger clans around it, formed the basis of Saiyajin society. The others cowed to the great strength of this man named Vegetas family. Over the centuries, rules were laid down in order to keep the bloodline strong and establish the House of Vegeta.Approximately 2560 years ago, the first recorded Vegeta Ousamas name was inscribed on a tablet for all to see. It was written that his first born child would succeed him to the throne. The second Vegeta was a girl. She was betrothed to a valiant warrior, reined as Queen for nearly 100 years and had 3 sons. The first son, Vegeta the 3rd, died at the age of 5. His younger brother, Sabi then changed his name, becoming Vegeta the 3rd. It was written that out of respect for the passing of the prince, all living people named Sabi would choose another name. The line of succession went thusly for almost two and a half millennia.Both men and women can hold the superior position of King or Queen. Their spouse, a person chosen by merit rather than birthright, then becomes the Viceroy and has his or her own set of duties. Should the King or Queen die, the eldest Prince or Princess must marry and assume the throne. The Viceroy then assumes the lesser duty of Dowager.ReligionUnlike most societies, the Saiyajin have no central belief system. There is no one God or pantheon of Gods and Goddesses, no spirit in the ground or the sky. Saiyajin pray to them selves. They ask themselves for strength, and are only let down by their own failures and lifted up by their own accomplishments. If there is anything they do look up to, it is the strength of the House of Vegeta.The Saiyajin do have a creation myth: a story about their origins. There is still little even in the great Kaio-samas library I can find to back this up, but as children we were all taught that the Saiyajin had arrived on Vegeta-sei (Tsufuru-sei) many thousands of years ago. No one knew quite where we came from. Some said from the ether of outer space itself, others from an experiment the Tsufurujin botched. There were many horror stories about Tsufurujin science, due to lasting impression of the Saiyajin genetic mutation.It was said that roughly eight thousand years ago, a man known as the Legendary Super Saiyajin came to power before the Vegeta Clan had even assembled. His enormous power shook the galaxy and many people on many planets felt his wrath. It was after this event that the Saiyajin appeared on Tsufuru-sei. They have the intelligence, and most of the traits of a human, but have a tail, which protrudes from right below the small of the back, as well as more feral, and primitive behaviors of the primates.Saiya-jin are generally well built, as a race as a whole, because of their harsh environment. The original Saiya-jins lived in caves and in barren wastelands, and thus needed a physic to fi t the terrain. Male Saiya-jin are generally stronger than the females, because of their naturally more dense muscles and etc. Saiya-jin s also have the ability to greatly increase their own power from their anger, frustration, rage, and even grief. Some Saiya-jins merely get power spikes, while others get a steady increased power level.Contrary to popular belief, Saiya-jins do not have a low female population, merely, females rarely attained the fighting skills necessary to be in the military force, which were most often seen by other races. The Saiya-jin genes are just as inclined to have female children as male children. Also, for most genetic traits, except for hair and eye color, Saiya-jins have the dominat ing gene. As far as hair goes, the color is a recessive gene, and will only show up in half breeds if both parents have the same color of hair. The same goes for eye color. The hair style, on the other hand, is quite random in dominance , and may only be apparent in the half breeds if the other parent's gene is recessive, because the constant hair style gene is lost on a half breed. Apparently, the Saiya-jin's gene to have nearly unchangeable hair styles is a recessive trait, yet, every full blooded Saiya-jin has it.All Saiya-jins are born with a tail, and some have them removed, almost always while young. The tail houses glands which, upon having the brain send a chemical message to it, telling it that there is full moonlight, the tail will start collecting the energy from the moonlight, and use that energy to produce hormones that cause the Saiya-jin to increase in size to 100 feet, and become totally covered in fur, except for their face and chest, and essentially, become a gigantic cross between a gorilla and a monkey. The power of the Saiya-jin is increased as well, ten fold. In this form, the only energy attacks that can be done are beams shot from the mouth. If inexperienced in the form of Oozaru, a Saiya-jin will rage wildly, and uncontrollably, destroying much in it's path, but through practice, one can learn to regain consciousness in that form, and fight accordingly. If the tail is removed, the Saiya-jin reverts to normal, because the glands are lost.A few Saiya-jins have the ability to become what is known as a "Super Saiya-jin" which, in actuality is a Saiya-jin who becomes completely energized by a golden life force. Since hair is made of dead cells, the golden energy shines through easily, turning it to gold. The hair itself, having a greater electromagnetic pull on each strand, collects easier, and most often in the upward direction. A Saiya-jin 's tail would also become golden furred. The eyes, for reasons as of yet unknown, become a solid emerald green. Upon reaching a higher level of Super Saiya-jin, towards the maximum stage, other changes occur.If a Saiya-jin goes Super Saiya-jin while in Oozaru state, he or she will have golden fur, and a large amount of power, greater typically than a Super Saiya-jin Level three. In this form, it is possible to use ki attacks that are not mouth-based, but the beams from the mouth are still possible. It is possible for a Saiya-jin to go Golden Oozaru without ever going Super Saiya-jin, because of the nature of the Saiya-jin's ability to get tremendous power from rage, this rage is sometimes only reached in the crazed, Oozaru state. From this state, you can transform directly into Super Saiya-jin Level Four, under the correct conditions, whether or not the moonlight is still there.Upon reaching "Ultimate Super Saiya-jin" stage, the hair collects into more triangular strips, due to an increase in energy, and the muscles increase in mass due to an increase in adrenaline and other hormones. There are three stages to USSJ. The first has an increase in strength and speed as your muscles bulge slightly and become very toned. The hair collects into strips, becoming more angular, but are relatively thick strips. The second stage is a vast increase in power, with a little more muscle mass and a notable amount of speed. The hair collects into triangular strips at this point, and is so charged with energy that the hair cannot be pulled down unless it is grabbed or uses a very strong material. This stage can be overdriven to get the power of the next stage, but with a considerable loss to speed and agility due to the overly large muscles. Stage three has the hair of stage 2, and a higher power level, but the muscles do not bulge whatsoever. Since this type of immense powering up is what happens in the next stage, it is easy to make the step from this stage to Super Saiya-jin Level Two, and will come from just a bit of training.The next major step is "Super Saiya-jin Level Two" which is simply vastly more power than regular or stage 2 USSJ, and only notably more than stage 3, yet, the muscles do not bulge, allowing for greater speed and agility. The muscles are denser though, creating a higher defensive ability. Also, the hair is pushed up more than any other SSJ form, often only leaving only a few thin strands of hair down in front if the saiya-jin has bangs."Super Saiya-jin Level Three" is a much more primitive state. The eyebrows are essentially burned into nothingness from such a high increase in power, and the brow becomes more pronounce. The facial structure, including the jaw, becomes more primitive, and the body becomes charged with high energy electrons and similar energy. Such a fast, and high powered rise in energy promotes hair growth, because the hair is used as a storing place for some of the energy, which is well distributed in the long, thick, golden hair. This level is hard to maintain for long, because of it's high energy requirements."Super Saiya-jin Level 4" is actually a sub-level. It can be attained only when one goes through the Golden Oozaru stage, and all previous super Saiya-jin levels. In this stage, the hair reverts back to the normal color, and general style, but there is an increase in hair mass. Most often, two locks will hang down, one over each shoulder. The body, save the hands, feet, pectorals, abdomen, neck, and face, as well as certain other parts, will be covered in a fur, which seems to be a different color based on purity of the race, and bloodline. None of the hair on the body is golden, because all of the energy can be contained inside the body itself, which greatly increases muscle mass and bulk. The eyes of the Saiya-jin also become a different color, which will be part of the pigments used in the emerald green of a normal super Saiya-jin. The eyelids become darker, and reddish, in order to help keep the light, usually created by themselves, from damaging their eyesight. In order to go Super Saiya-jin Level Four, you must have a tail, for that is where the gland that produces most of the physical changes is located.The Highest level of Super Saiya-jin is merely a rumor of an idea spawned in Akira Toriyama's mind, and never produced. For all practical reasons, I shall refer to this mode as the Perfect Super Saiya-jin. In this form, the hair becomes much, much longer, like in Super Saiya-jin Level Three, and becomes golden again. The fur remains red, and so do the eyelids. The eyes are back to the green color. It it my theory that there is actually three steps to get to it. It is essentially going SSJ1, 2, and 3 while in the 4th forms body. I believe that the fur, when the body is at maximum power, also becomes golden. The body becomes almost completely charged with energy, so much so that it would almost definitely tear the being apart. It is possible that the life power that this kind of Saiya-jin has could draw some power from all the Saiya-jins dead and alive, for he would be a Saiya-jin god. This is all speculation based on Akira Toriyama's original design for the SSJ4 and should not be attributed as docemented information.Sociology:The Saiya-jins shared Planet Plant with a race with high technology, the Tsufara-jin (Truffles). The Saiya-jins were a force to be reckoned with, but the Truffles managed to keep the Saiya-jin s pushed back to their caves and such structures. As a result, the Saiya-jins did not advance from a tribal state for a long time. The Saiya-jin s are were split into two groups. One, the warriors, and the other, the workers. The workers built structures, provided any manual labor needed, and some even served under the chieftain, and did any task they were told to do.Eventually, the Saiya-jins decided to pull their full force at once, and used the full moon to attack using their Oozaru forms. They managed to wipe out most of the Truffles and their cities. From the spoils of the war, the Saiya-jins quickly be came developed in high technology and such, though they had few scientists. Eventually, the Saiya-jins advanced offworld, and made contracts as a hired military force, which later was hired by Freeza to become planet barons.The Saiya-jins chieftain system evolved into a royalty. The King, and every firstborn son would be named Vegeta. The original King Vegeta was the strongest of the Saiya-jin, and made it a point not to marry for wealth, love, or power, but to marry the strongest woman he could find, so his son would surely be stronger than the both of them, and thus the strongest, and could keep the throne. The Saiya-jins were also separated into clans, and each clan had clan colors, badges, symbols, etc. Upon the destruction of Planet Plant, renamed Vegetasei, at the hands of Freeza, and the murder of the king by the same being, the Saiya-jins were mostly killed off. A few survived and roamed the cosmos. No female full blooded Saiya-jin s were believed to have survived.Technology :The Saiya-jins barely have technology of their own, except for ki-related inventions. Most of the Saiya-jin technology, including their infamous power level scouters were stolen from the Truffles. The armor of the Saiya-jin, on the other hand, were created by themselves, with elasticity for obvious reasons. Upon gaining control of the Saiya-jin, Freeza integrated the scouters and armor into his own military force. The spacepods that the Saiya-jins use are actually from a neighboring planet's race, which landed on Vegetasei and quickly created a trade of technology for services with the Saiya-jins. It is believed that the Saiya-jin destroyed the race after fully integrating their technology.Social Interaction:Saiya-jins are very territorial, but also want their territory to be used by other Saiya-jins, so that they would have power over them. This is how the clans developed. Saiya-jin s are very much like wolves because their clans are like packs, they stick together, but as a group, keep other wolves away.The Saiya-jins also have an interesting style of interacting with the opposite gender. The women are not prized on their looks, or childbearing ability, like with early Earthlings, instead, they are judged by their strength and power level. When a Saiya-jin decides to mate, it's for life, though their are extenuating circumstances because some Saiya-jins go through physical, or mental changes. Also, a male Saiya-jin will leave his scent on a female that he is courting by rubbing his tail, which have special glands in them, on the female. If the female then rejects the male, the hormone will simply fade away within a day or less. If she does not reject him, her hormones will be activated, and will duplicate the scent that the male's hormones create. This is a calling card of sorts. Any Saiya-jin male will be able to smell if a female has been taken. Most species cannot smell the subtle hormones though.
