“Heather’s compositions envelop you without your realizing that it’s actually happening, they take you off guard and stay there. Bill Frisell’s guitars and her silky chords do the rest.”
Rolling Stone, France
"...Heather Greene has a slow and steady style. Like so many musicians from the New York City scene, Heather’s songs teeter between jazz, pop, folk and even a touch of country. Her debut album “Five Dollar Dress” is innocent and wistful yet there’s a touch of sarcasm in there too. Guitars, strings, some fantastic double bass action, and other sounds are layered upon her piano-driven songs to give a dreamy feel to the album. There are moments during “I Wrote Your Name” when the weeping guitar and melancholy vocal provide a perfect counterpoint, as if in duet. The pedal steel, cello and Wurlizer all come together in perfect combinations and add a little sparkle through-out this bittersweet collection of original material. Slowly trapping the listener in this slo-mo world of layered instruments and vocals, this is all round a good album, lovingly written and beautifully produced." [CM]
Is This Music, United Kingdom
“…A warm and gracious charm, it is time to pay attention to this talent.”
La Jalouse, France
“With an intimate voice and lush atmospherics, Heather Greene may very will be the antidote to an agitated world.”
La Humanite, France
“Heather Greene has what one calls the X-Factor: that undeniable quality that just simply stands out amongst the rest…bittersweet songs of pure poetry and strength that live by details and nuances and are both subtle yet approachable at the same time. A self confident debut with independence.”
Westeit Magazine, Germany
“Greene never destroys the volume of Five Dollar dress, and throughout she remains unpredictable. Perhaps she’s learned from her experience as a New York songstress to keep one on his toes, gently breaking into unconventionalness…”
Kulture News, Germany
“A songwriter album of the highest quality.”
Neue Musikzeitung, Germany
“Courage is needed for such an album, but even more so, talent, self-confidence, and heart….”
Music Outlook, Germany
“An album which must not be missed in any CD collection. Sparkling song-diamonds of incomparable weightlessness…”
Jassthetik, Germany
“Sometimes sexy, sometimes innocent, a bit sarcastic and daring, yet again thoughtful…heather expresses herself in a fantastic manner….”
Astroh Showbiz News, Amsterdam
“English has a nice word for this kind of music: Lush. Folk, jazz, singer-songwriter and country meet each other in this striking Americana variant that will reach out to you…” Hanx, Amsterdam
“This album you’d call a surprise, underscoring once again the diversity and quality of her label, BHM. She’ll treat you to strong songs with a gentle character…”
ART/FACT, Amsterdam
