Brass n' Grass

About Me

Formed in 2005 by a group of music students seeking to do something a little bit different, Brass n' Grass takes a grassroots horn band approach to an eclectic palette of musical styles ranging from new orleans style jazz & blues to funk, hip hop and reggae. It provides for a truly unique listening experience, as no tune is ever played the same way twice! Brass n' Grass thrives on live energy, passion and improvisation...combining their formal education in classical and jazz performance with their extra-curricular influences from the Youngblood Brass Band, Herbie Hancock, Medeski Martin & Wood, SCI & other bands who thrive on uniqueness, passion and energy in the live music scene. Having no vocals, each member contributes something equal and creative to the group, and has no need for electrical amplification. We're human powered! Brass n' Grass plays mainly in Kansas, in the K.C./Lawrence area, and also out west in our hometown of Hays, KS on occasion, Gella?
The past few months we have been on a 'haitus' of sorts: we're spread around the state teaching in the public schools and finishing up our own degrees, but we're still planning on doing Wakarusa this summer and playing various shows in the area once our lives slow down a bit. Otherwise, you'll soon be seeing us at small bars, clubs, parties, or pretty much any venue, no PA required. Just leave a message and we'll contact you with a K.C.area number.
