Where should I Start? Well after a handful of jobs that led me nowhere, I decided that I wanted to become a bartender. The first problem was that i was only 20 yrs old (just a small hurtle). Second problem was that
I had no experience (yet another small hurtle). So i got a job waiting tables at a Popular restaurant. As it turned out, I was good at it and enjoyed it. I met A good friend of mine there who was a bartender at the time. He trained me to tend bar while i was still only 20 and as soon as I turned 21 I was put behind the bar. (Thanks to some serious Beer drinking with my managers after work) A couple of years later another Friend from work and I decided to move to South Florida, After a trip to Boca Raton, Fl. We both
Transferred to a store down there and enjoyed every single day And every single night we spent In Florida. I Took a Second job At A very Popular night club In the heart of South beach, Miami Called Nikki Beach and the Pearl. (seen in the movie "Too Fast Too Furious" check out www.nikkibeach.com and click the pearl link) That was an incredible eye opener for a young man of only 22 years old From Hueytown, AL. But I loved every minute of it. Then while Enjoying a wonderful life with all of the freedoms a single 22 year old male could ask for. The horrible tragedy of September 11th 2001 hit South Florida very hard. A lot of the people who live there are from NY. Business died all around in the night clubs and bars of south fl. And so did my great job that i enjoyed so much. So a few months later i moved back home to be with my family and friends again. I went back to my first bar tending job, and that's when me and my beloved Mother started to think about opening our own Bar. After careful considerations and ignoring all the negative warnings from others, about the down side of opening your own bar/club. (we come to find out later what they were trying to tell us) We opened our own place "Sharkyz Lounge" It has been a roller coaster ride, up and down, up and down. But we made it through the tough years and now we are enjoying it. We started out by focusing on pool players and having large pool tournaments and that went well at first but it began to wear thin and we moved on to having bands. That also went well but began to wear thin. And then one night our house band brought in a young man who, was a DJ and he would play sets in between the bands breaks. That went over very well and then I found out that one of my friends had the equipment to do it and so we brought him in to play on the weekends. That was going very well then our DJ took an interest in other activities and abruptly decided to quit and then we had to do something. So the following weekend I grabbed a couple of home CD players, with what little bit of music I could dig up from everyone I knew. And there i was cross fading from song to song. The crowd at that time didn't care they just wanted to here loud music that they could dance to without going to Birmingham. that lasted for a few weeks (In which i finally bought a set of pioneer CDJ's) Then I was introduced to A DJ From Tuscaloosa by the name of Six Five (6'5) He offered to play for free one Saturday night to listen to him spin and see if we would be interested in having him every Saturday night. Now keep in mind I'm still just cross fading from one song to the next and that was it. When he came that night I was amazed. I have been in plenty of clubs From here to there, but never payed any attention to the DJ. I Was blown away, So needless to say he began to Spin every Saturday night. And I Would cross fade every Friday night. I think he finally got tired of listening to me murder the beats and explained the basics of mixing to me. It all started to make sense to me and with help from another DJ that goes by the Name Reehab (my current partner on Fri. and sat. night) I slowly started to catch on to the whole concept. And from that a DJ was born. now with the right equipment, the perfect song after song, And absolutely no shame in making an ass of myself on the mic , You can here me play every Friday and Saturday night Only At Sharkyz Lounge.
