Reverend Vashti-Jasmine McKenzie is an emerging prophetic voice in the church for persons seeking Christ. Being rooted in the AME Church since birth, she came to know the Lord on her own at an early age. She is a young woman, chosen and called by God, who is a leader among her peers, passionate and on fire for the Lord whose call encompasses the many gifts and talents that God has bestowed upon her.
Jasmine, as she is affectionately called, is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. She is a graduate of The Baltimore School for the Arts having been trained in the Visual Arts Department. She then matriculated at Howard University in Washington, DC. While at Howard University, Jasmine established herself as a leader by serving the Howard University community as a member of the Baltimore Club, NAACP, National Council of Negro Women, also as a member of the percussion section of the Howard University “Showtime” Marching Band and as a Re-chartering Member, President and Life-time Member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.
Upon graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in Administration of Justice, with a minor in Fashion Merchandising, Jasmine obtained a full-time position serving as a Legal Assistant in the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City. Also upon graduation, Jasmine acknowledged her call into ministry and subsequently preached her trial sermon shortly thereafter. It was on September 14, 2004 that Vashti-Jasmine McKenzie was initially licensed to preach by the AME Church and ordained March 30, 2007 by Bishop Vashti McKenzie and Bishop Adam J. Richardson. Reverend Vashti-Jasmine McKenzie has served as the Minister to College Students of the Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland since being licensed to preach. Recently, Reverend McKenzie has begun her graduate studies at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary located in Evanston, Illinois and currently serves as a Minister to Teens at the Greater Institutional AME Church in Chicago, Illinois.
Jasmine is the second born to Episcopal Supervisor Stan McKenzie and the Right Reverend Vashti Murphy McKenzie who are the Presiding Prelate of the 13th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which encompasses Tennessee and Kentucky.
Reverend Jazz is fulfilling her favorite scripture “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he gets old, he shall not depart from it.” She is determined to remain Radical for Christ! For through her God is going to do a new thing in building His kingdom! ..
