About Me
Michael Morrow is a touring guitarist and vocalist, performing on the Eastern seaboard and Midwestern US for over a decade. A road hard, respected member of the East Coast Jamband and Reggae scenes and prolific musician, teacher and producer, Michael has performed many major festivals like the Nelson Ledges, Pocono Gathering, Wiggins Park Garcia tribute, Wilmer's Park Concert Series, West Virginia Mountain Festival, Kalamazoo Island Fest, Bethlehem Musikfest and large venues like the Mann Music Center, Camden's Tweeter Center and Wilmington's Blue Rock Stadium.
As live guitarist and vocalist with touring acts like Mystic Rebel (Riverwest), Living Earth (Relix), Ihi Yahn Ihi Arkestra (Inity) and Slide (Ikon) Michael has enjoyed a career loaded with accomplishments including twice featured performer for the Prism cable series "Live at the Middle East", also performing live on MTV at the 1993 US Snowboard Championships. Beside performing everywhere from coffee houses to playing for crowds of over twenty thousand, Michael recorded two records with Grammy winning producer David Ivory (Roots, Eryka Badu) including 1994 Slide CD "Focus" which won Best Funk award at the Delaware Valley NARAS Awards the same year.
MM is a consistent, dynamic and hardworking singer, musician and entertainer who has performed with many top acts including Bob Weir, Warren Haynes Band, Derek Trucks, Ben Harper, Joan Osbourne, Junior Marvin, Dave Matthews Band, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Jeff Buckley, Peter Himmelman, Govt Mule, Jimmy Buffet, Big Sugar, Truth and Rights, John Brown's Body, Jah Works, Ihi Yahn Ihi Arkestra, Kaseopia, David Grisman, David Nelson, Merl Saunders, Henry Turner, Toadies, Goldfinger, Yellow Man, Zen Tricksters, Juggling Suns and many more. He has appeared on the WHYY radio folk show with Phila Folk Fest Host Gene Shay and was featured on the 1995 Cyndi Drue WMMR Christmas show.
Michael has played at many larger club venues like House of Blues, BB Kings NYC, Woodstock's Bearsville Theater, Revolution Hall, Sullivan Hall and the World Cafe Live, where he appeared four times since 2004, including shows with Leon Russell, Black Uhuru's Junior Reid, Mystic Rebel and Ihi Yahn Ihi Arkestra. MJ has done live sessions with the likes of guitar legend Earl "Chinna" Smith, drummer Tony Coleman (BB King), Peter Himmelman, Robert Hazard, Mike Tyler (G-Love, LL Cool J) Toni Brown Band, and Reggae chatters Niyorah, Jah Menelek and Sista Fiyah.
After sitting in with Dark Star Orchestra in 2004 at the Electric Factory, mangager Norman Gopin called Michael "...the best singer we heard." The wildly sucessful Grateful tribute act, who the Washinton Post called "...the hottest tribute act in the US... " contacted Michael for a call back audition following the sudden death of founding member keyboardist Scott Larned, seeking a replacement. Michael auditioned in June, beating out many rumored candidates from across the country, on his second instrument...keyboards. Although the job utimately went to former Dead alum Rob Barraco, Michael was nonetheless honored to be asked...
As Mystic Rebel's frontman and guitarist since 2005, Michael has shared the stage with Junior Marvin, Stevie Culture, The Itals, The Meditations, John Brown's Body, Jah Works, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Leo Kotke, Bruce Cockburn, Cowboy Junkies, John Jorgenson, Eric Johnson, Afromotive, Lucy Vincent, Spiritual Rez, See Peoples, Three the Hard Way, Tony Trishka as well as countless other artists in the reggae and Jam world.
Commented Phil Simon of Simon Says Booking and the agency behind Michael's demanding schedule for the past year-and-a-half. "He [Michael] has a solid band and a long performance history. They'll do nine shows in ten days." He wasn't kidding...The extremely busy guitarist recently embarked on a hectic tour of the South Eastern US, which included stops in Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, N.C., Kill Devil Hills, N.C. and Myrtle Beach. Festival season 2007 saw MJ traveling from Michigan to Georgia in seamingly endless tours. Michael did over 400 shows in a three year run.
In addition to his live endeavors, Michael has been recording, teaching and producing in his home Pro Tools studio on the Western Schuylkill River. MM also hosts his own TV show "Music To Morrow" on WPHA Wilco/Comcast network throught Philadelphia which features regional music, performances, remote event coverage and interviews. Morrow has produced music for films including 2008 Indie award winner "No Boundaries" and for television with Wilco Cable, Prism Cable and produces exclusively with Yardley PA entertainment firm St Lewis Productions.
