4/23/07 Blog on Ivillage...My Boss (Louis Licari) wrote this one about me!! Enjoy!!! Should be up live on Ivillage tomorrow!!!Ode to LeighLeigh is the woman behind the man. The man being me. Without her I am nothing! No one you would know about at least. She is the head of public relations of my salons, my product line, and me! Leigh is the person who makes sure that I am on the today show, in magazines, and on this blog often enough so that you won't forget my name. Yes, she has a strong personality. I don't think you would call her a "pushy chick" like most publicist. She is more of a force to be reckon With.Leigh is also my muse. I've learned my most valuable tips and trends sitting across the office from her and watching her daily beauty routines. She is a thirty year old woman who is facing the day to day challenges of a demanding job, being single, living in New York City, and having to look great every day. Looking great is part of her job, I mean after all, she does represent me. Working with Leigh is like sharing an office with all the women from "sex in the city" rolled into one. Needless to say, life at work is never dull. The most amazing thing about Leigh’s style is that she never looks like she is trying to achieve a look. She owns it! TIP-anything that looks forced doesn't work. She has long dark wavy hair that she sometimes wears straight. Sometimes it's in waves cascading on her shoulders, other times it on her head looking like it might fall down at any moment. The funny thing is it always looks great. I knew she would be the perfect person to ask how to tame a mane of curly to wavy hair. I asked her to email me two to three tips to share with my readers. Get ready! Here is the e-mail she sent me.Louis, Three? I have nine thousand. My biggest most valuable tip is getting the roots straight!!!! I like when the hairdresser uses an ionic blow-dryer with a nozzel, it makes my hair shine like crazy. (Leigh is talking about making her wavy hair straight. I think she is a bit ADD so I will make comments throughout to make it easier for you to follow). Otherwise, I will jump out of the chair! (Leigh rarely shampoos or blow-dries her hair herself. She is a bit of a princess and patience is not her strongest virtue.) The next tip is my new favorite trick. With my type of hair, which is the best type (she is full of confidence), you only need to shampoo your hair once or twice a week. Recently I was on my fourth day without shampooing and I got stuck in a drizzly rain. It turned my straight blow dry into big soft waves. Now I use a bit of your foam gel and push the ends of my hair up to the root. The result is the sexiest wave, but it is still straight at the root. This is the perfect look for the last days of a straight blow dry.Another tip is the long island jap bun. (She said it, not me!) After my blow dry, I put my hair in a pony but don't pull the pony tail all the way through. The pony looks like a loop. This look rocks in most New York City gyms. When you take your hair down you will get a natural swerve. TIP- to gym girls with thick and dry hair who workout hard and sweat. Shampoo with conditioner every other time if you need to get the sweat out. It will clean your hair without drying it out. Also, I never sleep with a rubber band in my hair and always make sure my hair is smooth on the pillow when I sleep! (I think that might be her date night advice, but it will help to keep your hair looking great.) My newest, and favorite hair tip, on my very last day before I absolutely have to wash it....I will take the smallest amount of your conditioner in my hands and run it through my hair. My hair instantly feels fresh and clean. How's that for a start? Do you need more? I am so excited! E-mail me as soon as you finish!!!! LeighNow you have met Leigh, you know a little bit more about me, and what it feels like to work at the salon. I know you learned more about handling wavy hair with a mind of its own. As Leigh said, it is the best hair. This hair has its own built in body wave and can be worn in any style. If you have this hair type you are a lucky girl. I must apologize for Leigh’s blatant mentions of my products. You must forgive her. After all, she is a publicist!
