rocLoop.com Meet the Band: Pia Mater from Aaron J. McGrath on Vimeo .
Pia Mater was formed in the Fall of '04. After meeting up at Rochester Institute of Technology the previous year, Matt, Ryan, Bob, and Luke decided to start a band. They began writing songs and pissing off Ryan's roommates with loud practices. No one really knows why they decided to play with 2 drummers, maybe it was the fact that they had 2 available to them. After some time as an instrumental group and some performances in that format, Tom was added to the group on vocals and guitar. If you would like Pia Mater to come to a town near you, feel free to contact the boys here or on the website. For any booking info, get in touch with Luke at [email protected].
Along with keeping a regular performance schedule, the band will be recording it's first album over the next couple of months with our good friend Matt Klock. We'll keep you updated on that process and hopefully it will be ready for the Spring or Summer of '08. On December 14th, 2007, Ryan played his last show with Pia Mater. This show was recorded and is available on the band's website. All of us in Pia Mater wish Ryan nothing but success and he will always be a part of our family. Ryan will be finishing work on the album with the boys, but will no longer be performing live with the group. After some searching and a few auditions, the band felt Jason Gilly was the perfect match for their sound. Gilly played his first show with the band on February 23rd, and the band looks forward to the future and what new possibilities will arise for the band. This next bit of info is one that we deliver to you with a heavy heart. As most of you know, Bob has been working in Canada for the past 6 months. We've made the best of the situation up until now, but we recently found out that Bob doesn't know when he'll be able to move back to Rochester. While this doesn't change things much, we will be considering ourselves a quartet until we get to the point in which Bob can return to Pia Mater full time. Bob is still very much a part of Pia Mater, and we will welcome him onstage as a guest whenever we have a chance. It is all of our hopes that he will be able to return to the group full time as soon as possible. We love you Bob.Piamater Music!4-5-08 photos by Lily Santiago
