Trance and house master Kevin S. Curphey (who sometimes uses the moniker DJ Altered Ego) creates doorways to other worlds. Trance and house are ideal styles of music to create transportational corridors – this is an idea very close to Curphey’s heart – and so he creates music that is capable of carrying the listener to different realms, crafting mind journeys of huge proportion. He displays an innate understanding of how electronica is woven together and how to reach right for the listener’s gut.

Because Curphey believes so much in music’s transporting abilities and because talent resides in every bone of his body, Curphey is able to create the music that craft the mental roads that allow the listener to make the trip to higher places. “Music, I believe, holds the key to the doors of the universe and understanding between all living things and nature itself,” says Curphey. To this DJ, music is something sublime and metaphysical. While entertainment is part of it, that is far, far from the limitations of music. Music, ideally, should be a transcendent elevator. “It is a motivational tool at its least, and a healing element of the very soul at its best.” Music, he believes, gets you pumped up and on the dance floor. For starters. But it can also be the key to the self-exploration and introspective journeys that lead to catharsis. “But even beyond that, music is a gateway to see a world through another’s eyes as well as put one’s self into that world.” Which leads us to the next power to be found in music at large and in Curphey’s work, especially. Music “is a shrine into which one can enter and develop a state of dreaming while still being awake and completely conscious.”
Communication
People talk and communicate mind-to-mind. But soul-to-soul communication requires music. Curphey, with his stunning dance music, is attempting to reach out and make personal contact with each and every one of his listeners. Music holds the key to the door unopened, signals the code to enter our inner senses and generates a pathway between our mind and the balance of life itself.” There is a place where what is sensed and what physically is intersect and it’s a place of power and strength. Kevin Curphey’s music can lead you there by “translating reality into perception and perception back into reality.”
Ready for the Future
Curphey is ready to roll with more than 80 sets of music written. “I try to transpose to the best of my ability what I write in feelings as lyrics into trance music as I feel it better completes who I am.” Curphey is working with A&R Select, the top independent A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
