I've re-written this thing so many times, but I still haven't found a decent way to start it... so this'll do. :) I'm Merel. I'm twenty and I'm currently studying Art Hy and Film Studies at the Uni of Sussex in Brighton. I'm not really your typical uni student, since I don't like getting drunk or finding other ways to go into my overdraft. Living on my own for the first time has made me appreciate how much my family means to me. Well, you know what they say; You don't know what you've lost until it's an hour down the coast. ;p I think people have quite a hard time getting to know me but though I appear quiet and reserved at first, I like to think there’s a bit more to me. I think about things before I say them, often over-analysing situations, which can be a blessing and a curse. I love escapism. Sometimes when the real world becomes a little too harsh I like to enter my own little dream world or delve into those created by others, in books and films. I love to look for beauty in everything. I usually find it in nature and art, which are often the only things that calm me if something bad happens. That, and music. I can be incredibly sensitive. Even other people’s moods affect my own. I can't stand conflict, much less upsetting people. I like other people’s company, and I’ve made some great friends, but thrive when left alone with my thoughts. Other things worth knowing about me... I’m part English, part Dutch. I love comedy. My favourite comedians are Dylan Moran, Ross Noble and Bill Bailey.

Um, I’m a bit obsessed with Harry Potter ( in the last year its gone from 26% to 42%... oh, dear. :S ^_^ ). Some people would say I draw quite well, and I’d probably agree with them. My favourite colour is green. I love food and since uni has forced me to learn to cook I've actually found out how enjoyable it can be. I think clowns and spiders are just a little frightening. I have no idea what I want to do with my life but hopefully that'll become clear as my time at uni progresses.
