Tucked away in the lounges of Los Angeles exists an extraordinary woman who crafts tightly woven tapestries of music and emotion. Her name is Sarah Conley and she wants to entertain you. From Fairfax to Sunset to Hollywood Boulevard, Sarah has taken her audiences’ hearts on beautifully intense journeys as each of her songs builds upon the other. Whether it be heartbreak, love, or restlessness Sarah’s voice makes the listener feel her emotion, even giving the occasional goosebump.
A Los Angeles native, Sarah has steeped in a rich mix of entertainment including everything from magic and circus, to literature and fine art. This is all extraordinarily evident in her music. Starting by making appearances at local open mics, Sarah quickly became a standout at local singer-songwriter haunts. These days she shines on stages of all sizes from cafés of 20 to audiences of 5,000 like at UCLA’s time-honored music showcase Spring Sing 2003, which garnered her a command performance in their 2004 edition. After years of performing solo, Sarah joined forces with her brother Nick Conley in 2004, adding a second guitar and backing vocals. Nick’s rhythmic and intricate playing and inventive arrangements are the perfect compliment to Sarah’s explosive yet soulful blend of Joan Baez, Janis Joplin and Sheryl Crow. Energy bounces between Nick and Sarah like a chemical reaction, totaling so much more than the sum of its parts. In early 2005 the duo released the self-produced LP Heartbreak & Cowboy Love to sell at their live shows. With each copy often containing handwritten thank you’s, those CD’s are sure to be collectors items in the not-so-distant future.
Whether it be original songs, or covers, Sarah belts them out. Liner notes while necessary are only ancillary to the performance of the music. Let this chanteuse coo musical kisses in your ears; you will yearn for more.
