About Me

Clementine’s musical philosophy has always been “Doing what feels right” They don’t seem to put much of a label on what they do, so often when people ask them what kind of music they make they shrug and say “indie rock.” This frequented question seems as awkward to the band as it does to those who ask. This unconventional thinking creates a vast array of unified sound. “We just have faith in each other and in our songs…the rest just works its way out.” It’s because of this attitude that gives Clementine’s songs fresh and inventive and gives the members freedom to growClementine was born out of the ashes of Justin and Tristen’s previous band in the summer of 2004. Together they cheaply recorded a dozen of their songs and played local shows, as always Justin singing and Tristen playing lead guitar. Originally a strange acoustic side project, Clementine set out to be a folk rock group that incorporated an odd assortment of instruments However the lack of skilled xylophone players pulled the duo into a new style of music. Justin reasoned “If you can’t have quality people playing strange instruments, then you have to have strange people playing quality instruments.” “That is where Stuart comes in” Tristen laughs. After the audition and addition of Phillip, the band was complete. After only few practices with the full band, Clementine began performing again. As a project Tristen created a video for “Baby I Believe” This later became made it on the first short album, “An Ep in Six Songs”, recorded by engineer and friend of the band Stephen at S and S Studios. “An Ep in Six Songs” was written, recorded, copied, designed, printed and packaged by Clementine’s own eight hands, proving their dedication to each other and the music. Tristen explains. “We didn’t have much money for the studio space so we laid down five tracks in four hours…including mixing and mastering time.” The Ep includes many of the fan favorites such as “Lydia” and “Golden Boy” it also contained the surprise track “Back Swing Porch” which had only been played live twice before.Clementine is now planning the recording of a full length album which is slated to begin October 2005 at Global Records, with band friends Global Test. These two bands are dedicated to change the local landscape. But ask the band and they will leave it at, “this is just what we want to do…”
