STOP PLAYING!!! YOU KNOW DAT BOY IS FRESH!!!
D.R.E. was first introduced to the world of hip-hop just before his 15th birthday. "My first rap tape was Ice Cubes first solo effort AmeriKKKas Most Wanted," D.R.E. reflects, "I didnt even know who Ice Cube was. I just bought it cause I saw a friend drooling over it in a record store. When he got home with his purchase and popped it into the tape deck (yes, tape deck) he experienced a movement that would change him forever. It was like nothing I had ever heard. The music I was listening to moved something inside me that had never been touched." That was when he began to write his own rap lyrics.
Initially D.R.E. wanted to be a deejay. He only had one turntable and when it got smashed a party, he focused more energy to his keyboard and drum machine. He began creating his own beats. His peers often compared his work to Dr. Dre and gave him the nickname. Eventually, they dropped the Dr. and just started calling him Dre. D.R.E. wanted to separate his new pseudonym from the one belonging to the former NWA member, so D.R.E. made his an acronym with a meaning he will not disclose. "I say what it means in my songs, so if you want to know you will listen," D.R.E. informs. When he wasnt able to express himself on a keyboard, he became more prolific as a lyricist and poet. He created many rhyme-books and filled them with poems, song lyrics, and bits of free thought. His literary talents were awarded when he became a published writer while still in high school.
D.R.E.'s musical progress continued when he was asked to write a song for a video produced by SASA Productions.D.R.E. moved back to Texas, where he was born, and learned to engineer and record effectively using the Pro Tools computer software. During the time he spent in Texas D.R.E., used his access to a 32-track digital recoding studio to produce several tracks for KEE Entertainment, 12 Play Productions, and worked on his own material as well. Also while in Texas, D.R.E. began performing at several nightclubs including The Bomb Factory and Deon Sanders Prime Time 21 Club.
After spending a year in Florida, D.R.E. returned to Tennessee to start his own production company, Bad Moon Entertainment. "I had been offered a few record deals but they all were bad. I didnt know much about the business then but I did recognize I was about to get hustled, so I decided to do my own thing." The first completed work under this entity was Southern Legions Better Life.
Things were going pretty well for D.R.E., and then suddenly he took an unexpected hiatus. I had a few situations to come up in my life that took my focus away from music. Ive never stopped writing or creating music, I just couldnt travel and hit the clubs like I needed to in order to get my name out. With a firm grip on all of situations D.R.E. decided to get back into the game. Joining forces with the likes of DG YOLA and GANGSTA BOO on a song titled "The Lights" was a good look. "Yola and his manager was hating on me," D.R.E recalls. "Basically they were saying I was too good."
"I realized that on my first go around many people were not ready for what I was doing and I let that slow me down. This time I dont care. I'm just gonna bust as many heads as I can and see what happens."
Sounds like we all better brace ourselves This might sting a bit.

Sounds Like: "I think lyrically D.R.E. sounds like Eminem and Andre 3000 smashed together but his rhyme cadence is very similar to what I hear in Scarface." --- Lenora A., Nashville, TN

"Yo, son reminds me of OutKast. A little bit of Face too." --- Jamison C., Chicago, IL

"When I first heard that song with Jay-Z and Eminem I thought it was D.R.E. I asked him when did he record it and he had to convince me that it wasn’t him. I was so certain that it was." --- P. J. C., Nashville, TN
