George Plimpton, Robert Palmer...oh, wait, they're dead! OK, under the category of other dead peeps I'd like to hang out with, Thomas Jefferson would have to top the list, with Benjamin Franklin a very close second. Add to that list, Hunter S. Thompson, Robert E. Lee, Coco Chanel, Truman Capote, Elvis, Sigmund Freud, Peter Sellers, John Belushi, JFK (Jack AND John-John), John Candy, Rodney Dangerfield, Ann Richards, Leonardo da Vinci, Socrates, Confucius, Princess Diana, Vincent van Gogh, Julia Child, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia & Marilyn Monroe, and you've got yourself one heckuva dead folks cocktail party!
Among the land of the living, I'd have to top that list with Bill Clinton. (Yes, I STILL have that crush on him...) Add to that list Anthony Bourdain, David Letterman, Tony Blair, Condi Rice (I just KNOW I could convince her to get over her crush on W and embrace her inner Democrat), Jimmy Buffett, Ted Turner, Shirley Q. Liquor (how you durrrrin?), George Carlin, Chris Rock, the Dalai Lama, Roger Federer, Bjorn Borg, James Carville, Hillary Clinton, Perez Hilton, Brett Favre, Bill Maher, RuPaul, Eminem, Mr. T, Baton Bob, Phil Mickelson, Vince Vaughn & the yummiest of all, John Cusack.
Favorites include the Grateful Dead, Duran Duran, Jimmy Buffett, old-school funk, R&B, disco and music from the 80s.
The Blues Brothers, Clueless, Legally Blonde, Desperately Seeking Susan, Back to School, Animal House, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Say Anything, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Sixteen Candles, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Seven Year Itch, How to Marry a Millionaire, Never Ending Story, The Princess Bride, Marie Antoinette, The Fifth Element, Waiting, Office Space, Napoleon Dynamite, Better Off Dead, Blazing Saddles, Dodgeball.
Mostly the old stuff...Seinfeld, Dallas, Taxi, Sex & the City, West Wing, the CSI and Law & Order shows. For the new stuff...I am HOOKED on 24 & My Name is Earl! Also No Reservations, Scrubs, Sopranos, Bill Maher, anything on the Food Network, sports, etc.
I am currently REALLY into spy novels and biographies. Vince Flynn, Steve Berry, Tom Clancy, that genre. Have recently discovered Mary Higgins Clark. Janet Evanovich is a perennial favorite. Of course, I do still LOVE me some Jackie Collins & John Grisham! David Sedaris has the most acerbic wit...he makes me laugh until I CRY! I will read ANYTHING written by Dominick Dunne or Anthony Bourdain. I've recently gotten really, REALLY into reading anything I can get my hands on by Hunter S. Thompson. It sure is interesting to read the Op-Ed pieces he wrote during the Nixon administration/Watergate era and note how eerily prophetic they were...about the CURRENT administration! The man was a tortured genius, God rest his soul.
My mother, who is battling cancer. Paula Deen. My friend Michael. Anybody who has been through some shit in their life and has made it through and triumphed over it. Little children who battle serious illnesses. And of course, the parents of those children. Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton. Thomas Jefferson...a true renaissance man if there ever was one. Our men and women in uniform who are risking their very lives for a "cause" whose value is dubious, at best. I don't support the war but I do staunchly support our troops.
