Ashley Scott

About Me

Ashley Scott is a talented vocalist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was exposed to music by his family and began singing at a very young age. As a youngster he grew up listening to his parent’s collection of classic artists that included Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye as well as artists from the Sound Of Philadelphia (i.e. Teddy Pendergrass, Patti Labelle, Phyllis Hyman, The Stylistics, and The O’Jays). Ashley learned about harmonies, stage etiquette, and showmanship from from his aunt Helen Scott of The Three Degrees and The Delfonics (who are very close friends to his mother). At the tender age of 3, their talents and how their music affected people fascinated Ashley. This inspired him to learn music and be a performer. These artists have given Ashley guidance, their blessing, and have instilled an appreciation and understanding that success in this business only come from hard work. Throughout his childhood Ashley sang in church and the All City Choir. In high school he also performed and organized several talent shows with then high school classmate Vivian Green. The biggest part of Ashley’s music life came when he attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he majored in music. He joined the Howard University Gospel Choir and became part of a legacy that has produced major talent as Angela Winbush, Tawatha Agee, Pure Soul, and Richard Smallwood. The Howard Gospel Choir strengthened Ashley not only musically, but most importantly spiritually. During his tenure with the choir, Ashley has performed behind Edwin and Walter Hawkins in Baltimore, Dorinda Clark of the Clark Sisters, at Howard University’s Homecoming Gospel Concert, and for former Secretary of Agriculture Michael Espy’s unveiling ceremony attended by President Bill Clinton. Ashley can be heard on the Howard University Jazz Ensemble "97" CD singing "McDuff", "The Need to Smile", "Song for My Father", and "Sugar" with an ensemble of music students that was under the direction of his professor, the late great Webster Lewis.Ashley has performed in the Philadelphia area at various nightclubs and events such as Brave New World, The BlueFunk and House Of Soul sponsored by Come Kleen Productions, and with one of his former singing groups he came in 2nd Runner Up in the 2002 Absolute Jams R&B contest. He has lent his vocals to several other artists in Philadelphia including live performances with Lady Alma and Jean Carne, and studio recordings with Chavous on five songs from her debut CD “Life Without Limit,” bassist and producer Jethaniel “Thanny” Nixon, as well as the title track of upcoming release of Remy Hendrix entitled “Hot Apple.” Although Ashley has sung jazz and gospel, R&B is where his heart is. He loves to sing love songs because he feels it is a subject that won’t ever die. His vocals are soulful yet distinctive. Ashley’s style can be characterized as sensual, sensitive, and smooth from the powerful bond he creates between his voice and the composition he is singing. Through God’s grace, Ashley feels he will be successful in his endeavors and will achieve his goal of touching lives through his music. PUT YOUR BIO SECTION HERE!
