About Me

I am a newly inauguruated lawyer for The Man (i.e.; the wonderful City of New York) with a taste for champagne and a budget for the occasional well drink (and a penchant for using the word "penchant"). I sing all of the time. It truly disturbs the folks in the next apartment over. Methinks that if they hear selections from Jekyll and Hyde or Into the Woods even one more time...well, there's no need to go into graphic detail.
I was a "refugee" from New Orleans who shopped at Burberry, and I like umbrellas. I am now home-ified in the big city, and I (sadly) no longer shop at Burberry (other than window-shopping), but I still like umbrellas. I also happen to like bare white walls, and feel no pressing need to cover them in art or paint. They calm me. I love silver, and dislike gold. I like words and punctuation and grammar, and I judge. Like any good Catholic boy. Oh, and I make a killer brownie. No, really. It kills. Might be the strychnine...
I grew up in the woods. And when I say "woods", I mean six million acres of pine trees. I hated it then, and I miss it now. If the towns of the Adirondacks ever get a Broadway show or two, a couple of sushi restaurants, a patisserie, and a Crate and Barrel, I'll probably even move back. I know how to load and fire a gun, and also how to do needlepoint. I spent some of the most important moments of my life on a stage and on the top of a dam. I enjoy and encourage random acts of schadenfreude. And gin. I truly enjoy random acts of gin.
"So here’s where we are. I work too much. I’m competitive. I’m always right. And I snore." - Dr. Christina Yang, Grey's Anatomy (Season 2)
"Why isn't my life like a situation comedy? Why don't I have a bunch of friends with nothing better to do but drop by and instigate wacky adventures? Why aren't my conversations peppered with spontaneous witticisms? Why don't my friends demonstrate heartfelt concern for my well being when I have problems?...I gotta get my life some writers." - Calvin, Calvin & Hobbes

My Interests

Heckling church choirs, the color blue, Burberry ties, raspberries, making my life into a living breathing musical, architecture, a well-made latte, cloudy chilly days, Argyle (sweaters, socks, Castle), whistling, baking

I'd like to meet:

People who confidently wear pinstripes, plaids, tweeds, seersucker, cardigans, and, of course, argyle. Or carry particularly awesome umbrellas. Or who are unabashedly sarcastic and judgmental...in a good way, of course.
Also, I'd like to meet people who are completely fine with spreading a blanket in Central Park or Fort Tryon Park, popping the cork (or, more likely, twisting the cap) from a bottle of wine, and talking politics and books and eminently singable music, and occasionally judging those who stroll by. This would all be done, of course, in the rain. The pouring, completely soaking rain. And maybe a little wind. I demand a lot...
Oh, and I want to meet people who realize that there is life (and truly beautiful apartments, and good sushi) in New York above 125th Street in Manhattan. It's mindblowing, I know, but it's also true. 'Cause we all know I never lie.

The Ghost of Clorox Yet To Come

My inner Martha Stewart is apparently extremely peeved with yours truly today.  My original plan for this beautiful first-day-of-July was to go in to work, but courtesy of one very broken-down A ...

Photographs and a Weird Little Doll

I stayed home from work today.  I wasn't feeling all that well.  So, I decided that rather than sit around and watch a full season of Grey's Anatomy (again), that I would instead go through ...

What Seven Hours of VHS Does To A Man

Today I spent much of my day at work reviewing videotapes so I could then send my opposing counsel a list of videotapes that are relevant to the cases I'm handling.  These videotapes had no sound...

A Random View From Above

I left work early today, courtesy of one doozy of a chest cold.  I then proceeded to sleep for a good four hours or so.  Now, unable to sleep any more, I feel the need to document the strang...

Can you give up Lent for Lent?

Oscar Wilde once said that "Self-denial is the shining sore on the leprous body of Christianity."  I am not taking a position on that, per se.  However, the latent good-boy Catholic in me we...
