Girlfriend Of The Year and musician Alanna, 15, is a perfect example of how hard work really does pay off!
What do you love most about being Girlfriend Of The Year?
Winning Girlfriend Of The Year has been my biggest achievement – it’s opened up so many doors. I also loved singing at the Sydney and Melbourne Model Search. It’s been such a great year, I wish it would never end!
What inspired you to become a musician?
I guess I just had the music in me. Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins, John Mayer and Ben Folds have been a huge inspiration to me. My singing teacher inspires me each week to achieve my best. My guitar teacher has also been influential - his ingenious approach has helped me master the guitar and piano! Lots of people have inspired me but I want to be an individual and to bring something new to the industry, something fresh and unique.
What do you love most about playing to a live audience?
It’s really great to know that people enjoy what I’m doing. The best thing is when people come up to me afterwards and tell me that they love my music and can relate to it. Performing really gives me the chance to share my music with people and get my name out there.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the music industry?
Anything is possible but nothing comes easy. You have to work hard if you want to turn your dreams into reality. It’s also important to get out there and try different things so you can create opportunities for yourself. Enter competitions that showcase your talent and who knows that can happen from there? I entered “The Creative Pepsi Competition” and won a private, intimate performance with Delta Goodrem. All I did was send in my CD into Pepsi!
Do you support any charities?
I have supported Canteen and The Starlight Foundation for three years now. I’ve met some wonderful kids who are so inspirational and I’ve raised hundreds of dollars through the sales of my CD’s. I really think that everyone should get involved with charity work even if it’ just through donation because you really can make an impact on someone’s life as well as making yourself that little bit happier.
What plans do you have for the future?
I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Music is something that I love so much. One day I’d love to be signed to a major record label and be accepting an award at the ARIAs. There is nothing else I want more and to imagine I will be able to do music every day for the rest of my life is an amazing thought. I couldn’t wish for anything more fulfilling and awesome!
