Doodle is a night for one and all, Emphasising on the DJ. From how they mix to what they mix. Using house party knowledge of rocking crowds the Doodle DJ's take Back to Back mixing to the next level with DJ's taking turns throughout the night. Held at The Social on Pelham St in Nottingham every third friday of the month. Playing anything to everything.The formula for doodle is 8 DJ's on 4 tune rotation. Each DJ has their own distinct style (Usually for how their months record shopping has gone). The only rule is play 4 tunes then rotate. This way with 8 different musical styles and such quick changeover you get pretty much every music genre we say we play... Played! We also are now introducing this formula but to 4 decks and 2 DJ's at a time. This will make the music for the night even more varied and really push the DJ's creativity levels.
Resident Doodle DJ's are Mister Shifter, DJ Teka, Krisstoff Kristofferson, Dan Rattomatic, Mouse, DJ Element, Flamenco Larry, XS.IF. and Ligre has been known to show up time to time and drop some.
Each month we hold a DJ Doodle competition. This is sorted by a democratic voting system. All DJ's vote on who they think smashed it throughout the night by either playing a rare record or by keeping the crowd moving or mixing some completly different types of music and making it work or whatever! Generally being a good DJ snaffles it. Whoever win's the title will get to drink out of the DJ Doodle trophy the next month and let all their booze taste of metal (What a prize!). We will send out bulletins on myspace each month letting you know which spindoctor won that gracious award.
What i've found out from playing Doodle is that we all have a passion for vinyl and that each DJ can suprise me by playing something that you totally didn't expect them to. It's great to go away each month knowing that everyone's trying to get the next big banger and the lengths that we go through to get them. - Dan Rattomatic.
We love to play vinyl so we try to as much as possible. Theres no rule about it been vinyl only but most of the time it is. We think this is important to the night and really does influence the music played. Anarchy records on Mansfield Rd, Nottingham have kindly sponsered the night and help us out with the monthly dig.
