Whats there to say about me? God I hate writing these things! Well I love music. Where would I be without it? Probably in a nut house! Dj/promoter/label owner and budding musician. I starting Dj'ing many years ago, when I lived in Bristol, back then I was heavily into hip hop. Thats where you can learn some skills, especially if you don't have Technics! So from bedroom Dj I took the leap to playing out in bars/clubs. Big difference, you have to rock the party. A chance to play other forms of music. While I was at college a friend played me something on his walkman (on tape! remember those things!) it was Inner City - Big Fun and then he played me Rhythm is rhythm- it is what it is, from the album "Techno the sound of Detroit". And House Music was born! (well to me it was!)
A friend of mine Bunjy was Dj'ing on a pirate radio Station in Bristol, Ragga Fm. He got me a show and so began my career in broadcasting. After a few years I moved back to London and joined the longest running pirate (oops I mean Community!) radio station, Station Fm 89.8. In the late 1990's I had the opportunity to start up my own radio station. At the time it seemed like every station was just playing Uk Garage. So I created Touch fm 107.1 taking over from Risk Fm. We were a Dance music Station. We had shows covering all areas of dance music, House, Disco and Soul, Old School, Drum and Base, Hard House, Jazz and Funk, Funky house. (Did I leave anything out?) We had to move frequency from 107.1 as the authorities decided that choice fm shall be granted a North London licence. Not content with one frequency they have to have two! Now days they broadcast the same show on both frequencys! But thats the powers that be! They want to tell us what we should and shouldn't do! Brainwashing is the word that comes to mind! Back to the story. So we found a new home 99.1mhz. We broadcasted in Stereo too. And the music came to life. After 4 years I decided to call it a day. The authorites were hitting us hard and fellow pirates had it in for us too! As a good friend of mine once said " Radio is a powerful tool, It's what won the war!"
So these days I still love Dj'ing and love music more and more. I have recently started producing again, and I hope you will hear some soon!
Thank you to all the dj,s who were part of Touch Fm (not to be confused with the Touch fm thats on air at the moment. This is nothing to do with any of us. Perhaps they just liked the name!) too many of you to mention, but without every single one of you it wouldn't have been the station it was!
