At Vida Latina Magazine, we feel that it is vitally important to co-exist with one another, due to the overwhelming abundance of Hispanics located right here in Hampton Roads. Collectively, this asset is a TREMENDOUS force equipped with incredible spending power and colorful culture. We must remember that diversity is collective strength. With a vast diversity of culture, we realize anything can be accomplished when combined with the other Hampton Roads communities, thus birthing a national trend, “Diversity is Our ..1 Attribute.â€
Statistics show that Hispanics are the largest minority in the United States, with an estimated population of 41.3 million. Also, Hampton Roads is the 13th largest Hispanic market in the US and one of the top five fastest growing in the country. The latest census figures show that 71,000 of Hispanics are US citizens while an estimated 25,000-30,000 possess a green card, with 100,000 residing in the Hampton Road area. Approximately 70% are Mexican; the remaining 30% are made up of Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican (Caribbean), including those from El Salvatore, Venezuela, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador and Nicaragua. With a median family income of approximately $35,000, most Hispanic Americans are younger than the general population. Here are a few more statistics: 52% are married, 55% have households of 4 or more and possess a high employment level with some college education. This “Movement of Unity†starts with everybody working together and not independently to create unstoppable results.
