About Me

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I have to go. Ya know, I used to live like Robinson Crusoe. I mean shipwrecked among 8 million people. And then one day I saw a footprint in the sand and there you were. I have a confession to make to you: You like me. In fact, you're crazy about me. (I like to take my fun and leave it.) Hello, I'm Courtney. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly. The... the other important joke, for me, is one that's usually attributed to Groucho Marx; but, I think it appears originally in Freud's "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious," and it goes like this - I'm paraphrasing - um, "I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member." That's the key joke of my adult life, in terms of my relationships. Sitting there at that moment I thought of something Shakespeare said. He said, "Hey... life is pretty stupid; with lots of hubbub to keep you busy, but really not amounting to much." Of course I'm paraphrasing: "Life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Well, that covers a lot of ground. Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. You better beat it - I hear they're going to tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing. You can leave in a taxi. If you can't get a taxi, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff. You know, you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.VIRGO - The Perfectionist Dominant ( Aug 23 - Sept 22) in relationships. Conservative. Always wants the last word. Argumentative. Worries. Very smart. Dislikes noise and chaos. Eager. Hardworking. Loyal. Beautiful. Easy to talk to. Hard to please. Harsh. Practical and very fussy. Often shy. Pessimistic. PEOPLE WHO LIVE BY THIS CODE:"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." - (Raplh Waldo Emerson)

Music:

Tool, Blind Melon, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, The Strokes, Neutral Milk Hotel, White Stripes, Tribe Called Quest, Gorillaz, Jimmy Eat World, Mary Prankster, Damion Rice, Willie Nelson, Led Zepplin, The Neville Brothers, Billie Holiday, Prince, Tori and Sarah (of course...), the Roots, Prince, Citizen Cope, John Legend, Brett Dennen, Elvis, Blue October, Deftones, OAR, Mazzy Star, Sublime, funk and reggae, Quicksand, Luscious Jackson, Kanye, Toots and the Maytals, and many other various groups that range from hard to soft, but always have a lot of heart.

Movies:

Anchorman (like I really had to point that obvious fact out), Old School, Office Space, anything by John Hughes, Woody Allen or the Cohen Brothers, anything with John Cusak, then the classics...all the Rocky movies (Why don't you try knocking me down), Star Wars (the originals), Godfather, Indiana Jones movies, and Back to the Future. Then there is the Crow, Magnolia, Royal Tennenbaums, Boogie Nights, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Casablanca and the amazing L.A. Story. Pride and Prejudice, Pulp Fiction is a must, as is Shakespeare in Love. Beautiful Girls. Snatch. Garden State. American Beauty. Shawshank Redemption. Primal Fear. Some Kind of Wonderful. Big Fish. Eight Crazy Nights. Dracula. Basically any movie that has some emotion to give.

Television:

If I have to numb my mind in order to go to sleep, I will drown my thoughts out with some reruns of Friends or Will and Grace, otherwise, I can't seem to find the time to waste on t.v. (Okay, my guilty pleasure is Grey's Anatomy, but don't tell anyone)

Books:

anything by Tom Robbins. Gatsby. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Catcher in the Rye. The Little Prince. The Prophet. Old books...more for the atmosphere they create. I have a collection of totally useless but very vintage encyclopedias.

Heroes:

Willis, Mother Teresa, Smurfette (dude...she was the only girl!!), Jane (well, hopefully she will be my hero in the future...we'll see), myself for staying alive all these years (knock on wood), and my mother.
