Phunkaloo was born on May 13, 1986. He has always lived in Pennsauken, New Jersey and would go on to graduate from Pennsauken High School with honors. His Mother signed him up for the Pennsauken Youth Athletic Association (PYAA) basketball league while he was just 7 years old. Little did she know that Phunkaloo was a natural when it came to basketball. His devotion and dedication to the game continued throughout his school years, while playing for both PYAA and Pennsauken High School. He admired Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers and he would always request a jersey bearing the number 3 each year he played to show his admiration for the talented basketball player. He wouldn't hesitate to inform his Mother when a new pair of Iverson's sneakers or a new jersey had hit the store shelves. No kidding, Phunkaloo was hooked on basketball and he worked hard towards becoming a NBA player. One game, one lay-up and one crash to the floor would end his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. During his junior year of high school,Phunkaloo suffered from a devastating knee injury as a result of that play and he had to have major reconstructive surgery. He was no longer able to play the game he loved, but he did not allow his injury to defeat him. Dancing!! Who would have thought that dancing would become his new drive, his new passion, and his new inspiration? He would turn on the CD player, stand in front of the mirror and come up with a dance style all his own. He decided to try out his new passion during a talent show at Pennsauken High School with a three of his classmates. They formed a group called the "Rhythm" and they went on to perform for an outdoor talent extravaganza in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as, local parties and events. He was on his way down a new and exciting road that would allow him to put the past behind him and move forward with new goals and dreams. He was reunited with his cousin, Riot, who invited him to a rehearsal of the Face Da Phlave Dance Company. The founders of the group invited Phunkaloo to become a member of the newly formed dance group and he readily accepted. He has been exposed to many different forms of dance as a member of Face Da Phlave.Phunkaloo believes that his faith in God has afforded him the opportunity to overcome the obstacles which faced him during his basketball trials. He intends to pursue an education in liberal arts to further enhance his goal to become an accomplished dancer. He knows that he must work hard to achieve this goal and he has accepted the challenge. Who knows where his determination and dedication to this art form will lead him? Stay tuned!!!!!
