About Me

We have a very limited number of CDs that we made for the Saving Iceland show left over. They are all hand watercoloured, hand printed and unique. They look a bit like this:

They're just £2.50, send us a message if you're interested.

After a debut performance supporting Mechanical Bride, Kopek have already played with a diverse selection of fantastic bands including The Blow, David Thomas Broughton, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, *shels, Secondsmile, Seabear, and Vic Chesnutt with the A Silver Mt. Zion and Guy Picciotto of Fugazi and Rites of Spring

The band draw on influences from Chicago post-rock, folk, jazz and electronic music and perform and record in many different guises.A debut EP of experimental pieces is now available and a split 7" with Suburban Kids with Biblical Names (SWE, Labrador/Yesboyicecream), SJ Esau (UK, Anticon) and Half-handed Cloud (USA, Asmathic Kitty) is out soon on OIB Records.

The band are also working on a full length album to be released in 2009 as well as an EP of acoustic songs and an EP of covers (Bjork, My Bloody Valentine, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk and Talking Heads).

Sounds Like:

Organart.com on our debut EP:
This is just wonderful - wonderful sound, wonderful artwork/packaging, uplifting creativity and a rather unique sound – music making an creative DIY at its very best... just beautiful. Delicate whispered resonance, a precise focused blend of mesmerizing post-rock and inviting welcoming alt.folk. A creative delight, a whispered piece of minimalist beauty. Two beautiful songs, two richly textured sculpted songs that just promise so so much and even it should be that Kopek never ever do another thing then this would two track treasure would be more than enough. A special CD from a rather special band.

Amelia's Magazine on our acoustic set supporting Seabear:
This bare bones set up shows Kopek to have that special quality that makes a band truly affecting. For while hushed/scuffed and flute-assisted acoustic laments are two a penny, Kopek’s are suffused with such melody, soul and charm you’re left weeping into your beer.

Audioscribbler.co.uk on 'Lost At Sea' live:
"A solid breakbeat and wonderful, Efterklang-ish horns collide in a lively, fun packed tune... its regal melodies and counter melodies bringing the set to a triumphant close. One last thing though; Marcus seems to be able to sing, really sing, without actually having to ever open his mouth. Consider yourselves forewarned."

The BBC on the John Peel Day show they invited us to play:
Spotted at this year’s Brighton Live festival Kopek take their musical lead from bands like Múm, Low and Six Organs of Admittance, and their set promises a hypnotic blend of post rock where minimalist and folk sensibilities collide.
