Hi, I live in the beautiful Yakima valley. My family includes: my wonderful and good looking husband, two sons(ages 24 and 21),(1)cat,(2)year old kittens(Loui & Gracie). I am so blessed to have a wonderful man who puts up with all the irons I have in the fire!!! Kevin says he doesn't need ambition........he married it!!!!
Last summer I worked an internship with Yakima County GIS doing orthographic rectification and remote sensing projects while also working out at the Farm. In May of 2007, I completed a B.S. in Biology/Environmental Science from Heritage University. It was a long haul. I spent quite abit of that summer and fall in Renton with my mom who needed some major surgeries. She is doing well and I am home. Occassionally we take in kids who need a place to live for a while......sometimes we wonder if we have an effect on them because we don't always see what we hope for.
We have an Historical Hop Farm near Moxee, WA. I applied for the 1st ever "Heritage Barn Grant" in January. The state awarded us our grant and the contracts for it were signed in Olympia May 30th. Kevin has completed work on 2 buildings of the 5 that will be repaired. I haven't been able to help much.....I wish I did....like I said, I have a wonderful husband!!!
September 24,2008, I entered the Resource Management Graduate program at Central Washington University w/an assistantship!!!!! I practically live at the college now. Many nights I do!!! All the graduates in the program have offices in the new building. Boy, are we spoiled!! All of our classes and professors under one roof (we just climb 3 flights of stairs...I need it though....it is the only exercise I get). I am doing better this quarter. I am not so lonely. The REM grads and others have gelled...so to say as group and we are there for each other. No one has to go it alone. These will be friends for years to come. Talk about networking!!! I was hoping to start an exercise program but I am always working on homework or assistant stuff or driving. But, this is the end of February and I am still alive. I hope to start the exercise and weight lifting this next quarter.....ya right.....I think I will have enough time......I am working on it.
Spending time with God, husband, friends, children, relatives and church are really important parts of my life. (I will get to do them again someday) I love photography, animals, plants, gardening, hiking, the sciences, being with people, helping people, church, kids and doing graphics for everything!
I am interested in gaining contacts in the Historical Preservation, Biology/Ecology/Hydrology & Environmental fields in the valley. I put our Moxee Farm on the National Historic Register June of 2005. My husband and I are slowly working to restore the farm and eventually (in the next 3 years) make it into a living museum, work horses, sheep, hay derrick and all the things (including people in costume) that would help to really teach people about how those in the early 1900's lived. I guess I am looking for help in getting that project off the ground.
You can go to the Office of Washington State Historic Preservation site, click on the Wissard, do a general query for "Moxee" WA and the farm and history will come up. I finally got pictures up for it.
We also, have been site stewards for the Selah Cliffs NAP for 5 years. The DNR put in an interpretive center, picnic area, and trails at my NAP due to the pictures I have taken and all the time my husband and I have spent hiking it.
So much to do.....only one life to live.....so, one day at a time.......and all for God's glory!!!!
