About Me

Joe Herbert is a singer/songwriter based out of the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Originally from Pennsylvania, he's been writing and performing since 1992, and will be recording his latest batch of songs for release in 2006. Joe has performed at many of the clubs, bars and outdoor festivals along the east coast. Whether as a solo act, or with a full band, he has shared the stage with legendary performers such as Todd Rundgren, as well as more up and coming artists like Keller Williams and John Molo.
The music has been influenced by a wide variety of styles and genres, stemming from world music, jam bands like the Grateful Dead and Allman brothers, Elvin Bishop, Pete Townshend and Nick Drake, as well as obscure pop groups like Edward Bear. The words are meaningful and relevant, and are considered by many to be his strongest asset, with an easy lyrical flow emerging from well constructed tunes. Reaching a broad worldwide market, Joe Herbert has shipped CD's to places as far flung as China, New Zealand, and Central Asia.
Joe Herbert has been the subject of feature interviews in the Winchester Star, Metro Music Connection, The Northern Virginia Daily, Mind Candy, The Broadside, (GMUs Newspaper), and The Shenandoah Valley Herald to name just a few. Hes been selected as Musician of the Month several times at ShenandoahMusic.Com, and has played many benefits and fund raising events throughout the years. Lyrics, Mp3 song files, artwork, photos, and information on upcoming shows can all be found at his website - WWW.JOEHERBERT.COM

Influences: Starts with Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Elvin Bishop, Neil Young, The Dead, Morcheeba, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Ben Harper, Nick Drake and Pearl Jam.I've always listened to a wide variety of music, and never really drew any distinctions between the various genres. This is not to say that I'll listen to and like anything you put in front of me. Some of that "new" country music being recycled out of nashville is just unlistenable to my ears. Same goes for most of the new Hip Hop that these 'rap moguls' are churning out onto the charts. I'll take EPMD over 50c any day. I like a lot of pop, but again, some of it is absolute driveltrash. Just because something sells, doesn't make it the high quality. For proof of this, consider the success of McDonald's. There's good, and there's not good, right? Having said all that, I'll attempt to give a somewhat brief list of the music I've found to be enjoyable over the past few years.Grand Funk, The Decemberists, Thievery Corporation, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa, Tabla Beat Science, Fela Kuti, AC/DC, Bruce Cockburn, Edward Bear, Fat Mama, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Todd Rundgren, and Hanson.Newer stuff that I've been turned onto includes Kan'nal, Beohbe, Gravenhurst, Broadcast and Coco Rosie. If you haven't already, you may wanna go check out Kid Loco, (jesus life..) Cat Power, and Mazzy Star. I love old Joni Mitchell (first 5 albums) and a great family band based out of new york, called 'Cecilia'. There are a few singer/songwriters whom I consider very talented- folks like Iron and Wine, Dave Pahanish and Abbey Ahmad. I also love Mary Lou Lord and Lucinda Williams.I've recently been turned on to Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple who come from Mali, and are quite huge in Africa. In fact, World Music from places such as Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, NZ, Mali, Senegal, and China all make their way into my itunes collection.I'm always interested in trading for something which will expand both our music collections -Just shoot me an email or post your favorites here.
