About Me

Check out www.reflectorband.com for more MP3 and videos !!
In 1997, three kids from Wudaokou: Guo Feng, Ye Jingying and Tian Jianhua, who had been friends since grade school got their hands on a Guns 'n¯ Roses record. The boys immediately decided to form a band, which we now known as Reflector. They pretty much did nothing but "practice", and by '98 they were performing in a series of gigs at Scream! Club, performing DIY shows, making it into foreign media highlights as the new degeneration of the changing people's republic. In 1999, Reflector contributed eight songs to "Wuliao Contingent", a Scream! Records compilation of Beijing's earliest and badassest underground punk scene. In 2000, Reflector's "Scream Club" was featured in the soundtrack for the Thai film Warm Summer Day, and Scream! Records produced the "Scream Club" video (which only took one day to tape by the way), following the guys on a frolic through the Beijing hutongs dressed as peasant girls. Needless to say, this video never made it to MTV, VH1 or even Channel V, but you can find it if you look hard enough...and let us know if you do!!!
In 2001, Reflector was the first Chinese punk band to tour the US West Coast, highlighted by a last minute opening for Anti-Flag in Sacremento. Upon returning to China, Li Peng joined Reflector, replacing old Guo, then recorded their first EP five months later, ingeniusly titled "Reflector", released by the Japanese indie label, People's Records.
Since their simple beginnings, Reflector continues to play to the hearts of the growing underground (and above ground) youth rock culture, playing at venues all over Beijing and China, big and small, including all the major Chinese rock festivals. Reflector also makes regular appearances as a featured band at extreme sports events in Beijing, and held the house/main stage at the last four International X-Games competitions at Happy Paradise in Shenzhen.
Continuing to write new songs, their sound has shifted from ska-punk to something, well, different from before. Some of it is online, on their website, and on indie records here and there. Reflector recorded and is about to release their newest project with Pilot Records, (title....TBD) with all new recordings of old stage-hits and some never before heard.
Leave a comment, write to Reflector and visit the band's website for more news, songs and info... (We don't update the English version nearly enough, but trying!) Thanks for visiting.
