The Artist: DGa:hover img { filter: Alpha(Opacity=50) }Born in North London, England to Reverends Ezekiel and Judith Gordon in 1974, DG is the eldest of three siblings who are all involved in gospel music. After returning to the UK from Jamaica at the age of 6, DG spent is youth growing up in Tottenham in the mid 80’s and early 90’s. The Tottenham of his day known for its cultural diversity is more infamously remembered for the Broadwater Farm riots of ‘85. The strong Jamaican and Caribbean community spirit and racial tensions in Tottenham in the mid 80’s and early 90’s informed DG’s musical path and affirmed his passion for reggae and dancehall music. He recalls that “many of the youths could relate the non-conformism of reggae music at a time when there were tensions between the black community and the authorities”.Lyrical depth is the best way to describe the music of this gifted Gospel Reggae dancehall artist. With his versatile style it is clear to see that DG’s influence does not come from any one source. Some say Buju Banton, others say Papa San but if you ask DG he will say that these are just two in a list of many musical influences from Shirley Caesar to Beres Hammond.DG’s parents, who themselves are big reggae music lovers, were instrumental in encouraging him to make a Christian commitment and use his passion for dancehall and reggae music to bring a message of hope, purpose and love through Christ. After years of struggling to come to terms with his true identity, on the 26th October 1997 DG made his final commitment to follow the path of his parents. It was upon making this commitment that DG began his Gospel music journey. Having performed at churches and on the concert circuit for several years DG was invited by Raymond & Co to feature on the track “Give Him All Da Praise” for their Award winning Playing Games album release in 2003. A nomination for the GEM Award for Best Newcomer soon followed in 2004 and in 2006 “Give Him All Da Praise” was nominated for a Marlin Award in the Caribbean in the category of Best International song. The Project: Right StandingThe ‘Right Standing’ EP is set to be one of the most exciting Gospel Reggae projects to come out of the UK. Produced by the highly regarded UK producer Adrian ‘Kenz’ McKenzie (BiggerStaff Productions) this 4 track mix of dancehall, roots and culture music is set for general release mid 2007.In these 4 tracks it is clear that DG is a man on a mission and it is his lyrical, vocal and musical delivery that marks him out as a rising star in the Gospel and Reggae music scene.DG has always placed the utmost importance on the communication of the message and as a true lyricist always ensures that the listener gains the understanding. Here is just a brief outline of the tracks:Watch And Pray An uplifting encouragement for believers to use the weapons of prayer and watchfulness to overcome the enemy. This is a dancehall track with mainstream Christian and Reggae music appeal. All About You A beautiful and personal love song to the Lord, this is praise and worship culture style. This song will cause the listener to explore their innermost feelings for the Lord. This is stripped back roots and culture gospel at its best.I Got Money In true bashment style this track finds DG making his boast in the Lord for his provision. This is an infectious track with strong street influenced music and powerful lyrics. This track is aimed at the street and is a solid representation of gospel bashment.I Just Want To Be Right Set to a strong roots soundtrack, the lyrics of this song explore the desperate cry of the struggling Christian heart. This song explores the all too familiar juxtaposition between the willing spirit and the weak flesh. It is DG’s passion to see people’s lives changed, transformed and regenerated. DG has a heart for the word of God and loves sharing the message of the gospel in a reggae format. LOOK OUT FOR THE ALBUM LATE 2007.
