Taking their name from a film short at the ’Summer of Love’ exhibition at The Tate, Liverpool, The Lapis are gathering interest at a frightening pace. They’re a bit of a mixed bag really, hailing from different areas of the fair city of Liverpool, each of them has a different look and influence but they come together to make a ballsy racket, different to everything that is out there at the moment. If you think of the dirty blues of the Small Faces combined with the moodiness of The Doors mixed with some Hendrix style guitar licks, you might just get there.John and Ryan have known each other for some years now and Kev came on board through another friend. Dakis answered to the calling for a drummer and The Lapis was complete. The Lapis started gigging in April 2006 and have played The Zanzibar, Heebie Jeebies, The Head of Steam, The Korova, Bumper, The Cavern, The Metropolitan as well as venues outside the city. They also supported The Rumble Strips when they played The Barfly (Liverpool) as part of the Levi’s ’Ones to Watch’ tour. Their first gig of 2007 was at The Cavern were they were asked to play as part of The Cavern’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations. As most of you know, The Lapis recently won an unsigned competition and they would like to say a massive thank you to the following people; Jade Wright at The Liverpool Echo and Pete & Peasy at Parr St Studios for choosing their demo as the winner, Dave Monks at Radio Merseyside for having them on his show ’The Pool’ and last, but my no means least, the man himself, Jon Withnall, for his help with making the new tracks possible. The Lapis – A gem of a band"Simply great. This band ooze class, one of the best voices out there.
Superb songs, and a fine set of musicians go to make this band something special. In Dylan, Doors, Cream vein, their effortless cool, and authentic sound put this band in a different league".Jade Wright Liverpool Echo.
