I am here for Friends

About Me

i thrive best hermit-style with a beard and a pipe and a parrot on each side.
[as does bjork]

i feel just a like a little raincloud; it's been so long since i've let it all out.
[rather like 'too dark for a picture']

Q:dwo
we know of anything which can be as dull as one englishman

[hahaha]

my husband phil is amazing. i keep discovering things. wonderful little things.

i like to entertain myself. i'm often found doing something seemingly insane, but i always have a logical explanation.

i try things out before deciding if i like them.

i am incredibly optimistic.

My Interests

music, books, interesting movies, baking, laughing, nursing, friends, drinking, cards, the occasional video gamery, etc...

I'd like to meet:

people who see the world like i do, or people who see it completely differently.

Music:

i like different music for different moods. i like many genres of music, but generally the less radio-friendly artists. i'm a fan of rock, pop, jazz, folk, blues, funk, alternative [whatever that means these days], atmospheric, classical, and some hip hop...

Movies:

i especially like michel gondry. he is a dude. i also like alfred hitchcock, wes anderson and charlie kaufman. i like strange, surreal things like luis buñuel. i like many of the classic saturday night live casts' movies...

Television:

on dvd/youtube: kids in the hall, the mighty boosh, seinfeld...

Books:

my favorites books/authors are 'anna karenina' by leo tolstoy and absolutely anything by salinger or kafka [i read and re-read them frequently]. samuel beckett is fun [in my own strange little mind]. 'dharma bums' by jack kerouac made a dramatic impact on my life at the time in which i read it [enough that it's worth mentioning].

i really quite like italo calvino.

i recently read and thoroughly enjoyed 'bound for glory' by woody guthrie.

i am currently making my way through 'in search of lost time' by marcel proust, which is wonderful.

i genuinely love reading...

My Blog

is it therapeutic to look back?

i have been doing a lot of 'reflecting' lately.  since finishing my elderly acute placement, i've had a lot of thoughts and emotions to sort out, which i didn't have the time to do whilst working...

when everybody’s saying your name

my body hasn't been right lately, which has had an effect on my mind.  generally speaking, i find the two uncomfortably related.  i don't like to be the kind of person who gets testy when sh...

things that i've read in books lately, that i've loved

from the story 'the non-existent knight' by italo calvino.  the idea is that there is a suit of armour, with no man inside, being held up by "will power and faith in [the] holy cause", which was ...

the moor is of a free and open nature

i had a feeling return to me, as if from a dream, on saturday.  phil and i were walking home from the tube at 1am, taking turns carrying his guitar.  it was a good 30 minute walk, but the we...
