About Me

"Many years ago, Ray Charles once said, 'I never wanted to be famous. I only wanted to be great.' If the question purposed to Mr. Charles were asked to senior music business major, Reginald Bowens in 2008, he just may reply the same. Reginald was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and is a very gifted young man; through both music and his extremely warm spirit. He is a music virtuoso by standard and a phenomenon by measure! The seeds planted at a very young age have led him down a path of greatness that meets him today as his present. When Reggie was in the 7th grade, he began fooling around on Finale; notating songs he heard in church, on local radio stations or just tunes that he liked. Today, his “fooling around” on finale led him to arrange one of most musically unique versions of Lift Every Voice (The National Negro Anthem) many have ever heard. This piece was submitted and is currently performed by Howard University’s premiere vocal jazz ensemble, Afro Blue. Reginald is a remarkable vocalist (baritone and bass-Afro Blue), flautist, trombonist and an extraordinary pianist. He has directed many choirs in church and school, participated in an array of instrumental ensembles and is currently the production assistant and education coordinator for the 2008 Duke Ellington Jazz Festival in Washington, DC. Reginald does not know what the future holds but through his faith and genuine love of the art, he plans to reach his destiny."*Special thanks to Jessica Chambliss for the short bio*Afro Blue, Howard University's Premier Vocal Jazz Ensemble .. ..Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing arr. by Prof. C.
